Alot of it is your standard castles & villages, with green grass, fields, & goblins. But there are some places with more interesting colorations.

For a while, I'd only log on once every few months when a holiday was approaching so that I could collect the special holiday item, hold on to it for a few months, and sell it after its price had gone up soon.

Speaking of, the Halloween update should be monday or tuesday.

The Halloween update has items & emotes that can only be acquired around halloween time for about another week.

The update is on the free to play and members, so if you'd ever consider getting back into the game down the road, might as well spend 5 minutes now in Draynor Village picking up the halloween items.

I don't get why people do games in 3d if they know they're going to look shitty.

They could put the processing power to 2d and make it look so much better.

This is an updated map. The blue boxes represent land just added this month.

The red box represents this one city.

The entire map is walkable and full of hundreds and hundreds of races. Unlike what I've seen of guildwars where you just go to an overworld map and choose a city to zoom in on.

This world is full of dungeons and tall buildings and about 10 to 20 other dimensions making it much fuller than the map would suggest.

A more comical take on the eagle/griffin riding as seen in lotr & warcraft.

Quote :
"Behind the Scenes - December
This month, we will kick straight off with a new batch of treasure trails, featuring new challenges based on emotes and items to get you to that crucial next part of the trail. High level trails will require even more thought, but this batch will also come with a huge new set of more than 100 rewards, featuring composite bows, high level prayer gear and new high quality versions of old favourites, such as glory amulets. We're also going to release heraldic helms to go with your armour and some really rather glorious looking posh and emote-improving gear.
All this, and we haven’t even mentioned the utterly unmentionable Third Age items! Items that will be even more difficult to obtain than a Champions Scroll from a pesky imp! Items that will be more sparkling than a wizard's lucky bead! Items so... ahem. Well, we'll let you find that out for yourself.

Reldo and his Knowledge Base team will also be releasing more of the popular area guides to places like Tirannwn, Gu'Tanoth, Morytania, the Kharidian Desert and Ape Atoll, as well as updating some of the older quests to use the Quest Help system.

Speaking of quests, this month's adventure will be an archetypal damsel in distress quest. Sort of. Well, it's going to have a damsel in it, and she'll be in a spot of trouble... as anyone would be if they had taken up residence inside Draynor Manor. Will you stop by later this month to assist her with a rather poultry matter? Those who do are bound to find a use for her and her rather odd interpretation of Animal Magnetism.

We will also release a festive edition of the gallery, featuring some of your Christmassy submissions (keep sending them in), plus a few rather special comics. Naturally, Postie Pete's been especially busy preparing for the Christmas rush, but he tells us that he'll still be preparing another batch of letters for your yuletide enjoyment.

The ogres have been petitioning Bandos for a while for a new look fortress, and this December they will get it! He has agreed to give the city of Gu'Tanoth a lick of paint and a spot of spring cleaning, so keep your eyes peeled for a general area improvement of this mysterious, yet rather thuggish place.

And finally, the Christmas Update! This year, the little known Shanty Claws (the Sailor Werewolf) has heard terrible stories about evil activities underneath Karamja Volcano. Apparently children are going missing in the area, and for some strange reason, snow is predicted for the first time on this tropical island! What is really going on here? Are the TzHaar to blame, or is something more sinister up to some rather goblinny tricks? When this update is released later in the month, members and non-members alike will be welcome to join and earn a new seasonal object, and members will receive an additional treat for their player-owned houses.

We hope that your holiday breaks bring you happiness and celebrations, wherever you are!

"In November 9, 2006, Blizzard announced that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft has reached a new milestone, with 7.5 million players worldwide."

Quote :
"RuneScape is a Java-programmed MMORPG by developers in Jagex Limited. With over nine million active free players[1] and more than 850,000 paying members, RuneScape was rated among the most populous online games in the world.[2] RuneScape offers both free and subscription content and is designed to be accessible from any location with an Internet connection and to run in an ordinary web browser without straining system resources.

RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Gielinor,[3] which is divided into the Kingdoms of Misthalin, Asgarnia, and Kandarin, the tropical island of Karamja, the Kharidian Desert, the Wilderness, and various other areas.[4] Players can travel throughout the game world on foot, or by using magical teleportation, gnome gliders, fairy rings, and other methods of transport. Each region offers different types of monsters, materials, and quests to challenge players.

Players are shown on the screen as customizable avatars. They set their own goals and objectives, deciding which of the available activities to pursue. There is no linear path that must be followed. Players can engage in combat with other players or with monsters, complete quests, or increase their experience in any of the available skills.[5] Players can also interact with each other through trading, chatting, or playing combative or cooperative mini-games.

"

If I'm correct about WoW not having a free to play option... that means Runescape has more players than WoW. Granted RS isn't charging as much or making as much of a profit, but it is constantly growing. Unlike what seems to happen with other games like diablo 1 & 2, and starcraft and the earlier warcrafts that burn bright & hard & then out.

I wonder how the next generation of gaming consoles that were recently released will affect the numbers for RS & WoW?

Also RS updated recently, not there big x-mas update with limited eddition items, but a few new things & a quest.

Quote :
"BBC News, reporting on a study by Brunel University, states that playing RuneScape as much as working on homework is not necessarily a bad thing. It can instruct players about working hard to achieve goals and that the nature of most games, including RuneScape, can teach teenagers vital skills as they enter the labour market.[40] In December 2003, The Guardian described RuneScape as one of the fastest growing out of all of the MMORPGs, having a userbase half again that of EverQuest, (even if it is easier due to running in a web browser) and as "the best British offering."[41] Just RPG states that "It's rare for something that's free to come with no strings attached, and is actually fun to boot" "

They are kind of outdated, not showing the full map that exists today, but are still worth a look.

Also does anyone know if WoW does seasonal things like this too?

It's just too bad that these shots didn't catch his eyes well. But the graphic upgrades they are running through for every monster in the game, a few at a time, worked really nicely for demons imo.

There are also seasonal songs that will only be released at this time of year... that will be on your playlist forever if you get them now, but can only be acquired now. Most of the x-mas stuff is for free to play as well as members, so anyone can log in, get the new stuff, and leave... just incase they'd ever want it or might get into the game down the road.

I tried this game out about a year and a half ago, basically lvled until like 30 and realized that it would take a ridiculous amount of time grinding away at that shit to be able to PK...

So I started trading coal, made about 20mil (just buying/reselling and worldhopping), bought all the pimp shit (santa hat, phat, gold trimmed armor) and then I got banned by some beggars who didnt get a gift. oh well, fun while it lasted

Yeah, its a little nicer now that there are well over 100 quests, so that you can get xp through non-repetitive ways.

"You’ll be able to try out our brand new multiplayer minigame “Barbarian Assault”, skulk around in ancient caves in a new desert quest and challenge legions of the undead in secret dungeons. If that isn’t enough, you’ll be able to slide along a new Agility course from the icy depths or keep up to date with another useful Knowledge Base update. "

Here's an excerpt from this months behind the scenes. Some of this should be released as early as tomorrow.

He has been buried in his work for far too long and, later this month, you'll have a chance to explore exactly what he has been working on. This update will be coupled with our next batch of NPC improvements (and accompanying wallpapers); making all the skeletons and zombies considerably more flesh-crawlingly menacing."

A new mini game update to rs happened today. Fighting these hellish creatures deep underground as penance for sins. Battling as a team to get out or defeat them or something... I just skimmed the intro... I'm about to give it a try. It looks interesting.

So apparently this new mini game is their attempt to be more rpg/d&d/ect like... in that its back to character classes... healer, warrior, defender, projectile person and you can advance lvls in all these and more.
