I'm trying to set up some version control software for my mother to use with AutoCAD. She just needs change history tracking, the ability to see what files were changed and when, and the ability to go back to a particular version from a date or checkin.
Does anyone know or use any VC software for drafting?
I'm currently looking at either Perforce and SubVersion since they are free, if it cost anything then I wont consider it. 11/6/2006 9:48:21 AM |

if you're looking for free only, then you'll probably not find anythign specific to drafting files. SVN should work, although it won't necessarily do binary diffs of the files, but it will keep a full history and retreivable archive 11/6/2006 11:21:04 AM |

Autodesk (or whatever company owns Autocad now) made a tool specifically to do this job. I'm sure they still do. Check the company's website. 11/6/2006 11:24:33 AM |

^ Autodesk Vault isn't quite what I'm looking for, that seems more geared to multi-user AutoCAD businesses for electrical and mechanical engineers. Plus anything from Autodesk cost $texas, when $free is the price point I need
I'll setup and play with SVN and Perforce in VMWare today, any other suggestions would be welcome. I use ClearCase at work, but not being free and being insanely complicated make that a bad choice. 11/6/2006 11:45:57 AM |
