Apple was selling a Refurb 60gig G5 for 229.00 this week.
That includes a year warranty.

Yes,they are out of them today but they will certainly have them again soon.
Sorry..250 for a used item with half that warranty..at best is just too much.

Ernie..you have no idea how close I am to saying yes on this.
3 things are keeping me from pulling the trigger though.
One....I am not going to offer more than 200 if I can get one from Apple itself for 229.00..
Two....I really wished it was not scratched up. My current Ipod looks the way it did the day I took it out of the box. (Love the ISkin) I do not even know why it being scratched up on the back matters so much..it just does.
Three....6 months or so is a little vague. 8 months? 10 months? Will the warranty expire next week?

BTW..I never saw where you said if it is black or white.

i've had 3 ipods, on all three the metallic back has been scratched to fuck and back in no time at all

and i've taken great care of it, the back is just a scuff magnet

Actually......what I said was that Apple sells the 60 Gig for 229.00

To be more clear..
If you go to the Apple website, you will find that in addition to the new products, they also sell refurbished units.
They are currently out of stock of most refurbished Ipods..as I said in my earlier post.... but the 60 gig was selling for 229.00 when they were in stock a couple of weeks ago.

In fact, the breakdown of prices were...
512MB Shuffle...29.00
1 Gig Shuffle....59.00
4MB Nano(Some still in stock) 149.00
30Gig 5G Ipod.....179.00
60Gig 5G Ipod....229.00
And while they are currently out of stock of most refurbs (probably because of Christmas), they get them in all the time and will have more. (Maybe before Christmas) The best time to check is in the AM.

Do not think that you are going to get a 5.5G ipod in the refurbs anytime soon.
According to Apple, it will be mid summer at the very least before they start entering the pipe.
The difference between the 5.5 and the 5.0? The 5.5 has longer battery life and a brighter screen. (Not that the 5.0 is bad at all..it is not) The 5.5 also has a special search function that the 5.0 does not have. There is no improvment in sound or any other real changes.

And if you do your research, you will find that Apple does a very good job on their refurbs.
The put NEW cases on them. If you had a refurb and a new one laying beside each other, you would not be able to tell them apart. Apple also test the refurbs to the point that the refurb Ipod actually has a lower failure rate than a new one.
You get all the same accessories as you would with a new Ipod.
You get the exact same year warranty as with new and you would with a new Ipod and you can also purchase the extra year(Applecare warranty).
BTW...Apple does not honor the student discount on the new price-point with Ipods..new or refurbished.
You CAN still use your student discount on the Applecare warranty however. That would drop the price of the warranty from 59 bucks down to 47.00.....

Anyone feel free to call Apple and verify any of this.

yes but once an item is sold out, demand is still the same but the price goes up because there's no quantity. You have NO idea when they will be filling their stock of this capacity..it can be tomorrow it can be 3 months. You can't assume it's going to be before christmas. They will most likely not put out refurbished ones customers will buy the new expensive ones.
