What is everyone's thoughts? I'm predicting another SEC Title and a run to the Final Four. I think they can top Kansas or UNC in the title. I say Florida with a 50% chance to repeat, UNC 20%, Kansas 20%, Ohio State 10%.

uconn would have beat their ass if they showed up to play at the tournament

also

can you really be a dynasty when the only reason you're hyped is because you're returning several seniors?

next year they'll be back to mid-SEC form, if they aren't this year

plz remember they weren't even ranked at the beginning of last season; not exactly the beginning of a "dynasty"

it was a terribly weak year in the NCAA, evidenced by the poor depth of the draft in my opinion.

Florida will not win the NCAA again, and may not even win the SEC.

i guess you're talking to me. nah, i just don't like copy cats. i mean certain cheers and stuff like the "Hey Cheer" is somewhat ok, but ripping off another team/school/fans of their traditions is stupid. while i respect LSU, i always refer to Tiger Stadium as "The Other Death Valley" b/c Clemson was the original ones to call their stadium Death Valley and even has a rock from Death Valley, CA to go along with the stadiums moniker. i think the fact that the NIT Champs South Carolina swept Florida is proof of how weak this past year was. i don't even think that's ever happened before, and if so, it was a hell of a long time ago. they should be ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls though, just b/c they are the defending champs and have a bunch of players returning.

several is a bit of an understatement when the entire championship-winning first string is returning mr. foot

[Edited on November 6, 2006 at 9:09 PM. Reason : but they have some decent players in the lineup. wont be as good obviously, but theres talent]

Florida will always be a football school first, but they're slowly getting the basketball culture. During my freshman year at UF, they went to the Final Four for the first time (in '94), and the city went nuts. Immediately after the game that got them in, a buddy and I went and camped out at the ticket office; six days later, we were in the 8th row behind the basket in Charlotte. Even though Grant Hill led Duke to a come-from-behind victory against the Gators, it was incredible to be there.

I'm glad to see some student-athletes pick team and camaraderie over money for once, and stick around at least for their junior year. A lot of fluky stuff happens in the NCAA tournament, but I think that a spot in the Final Four is very possible for this team, although another title may be too much to ask.

you sure about that? I am not being a dick, I am really asking... I know that LSU's stadium is a LOT older than Clemson's but I dont know who used that name first. I always knew of LSU's being called that but didnt hear about Clemson's until I was like 8 or 9

Trust me it's well documented that Clemson was the first one to go by Death Valley.

Quote :
"The term "Death Valley" comes from the fact that the field is physically situated in a valley. Two additional facts add to the mystique. First, the university cemetery sits on a hill that once overlooked the field before the upper decks were constructed. The other reference comes from the late Lonnie McMillian, the former Presbyterian College football coach. He used to take his teams to play at Clemson, and they rarely scored, never mind gained a victory. Once he told the writers he was going to play Clemson up at Death Valley because his teams always got killed. It stuck somewhat, but when Frank Howard start calling it that in the fifties, the term really caught on."

well LSU used to be called Deaf Valley, which later became Death Valley. apparently in some book, don't know the name, by a LSU historian he admits that Clemson was the first one to go by that moniker. some say a reporter once mistakenly called it Death Valley instead of Deaf Valley and it kind of morphed from there. Clemson at least has provided some sort of evidence for how they got the nickname through the well known interview with Presbyterian College coach Lonnie McMillan in 1948. LSU has provided no such evidence to combat it.

UCLA is the only dynasty in the history of college bball. No one else even comes close. In the modern sports world I think of a few teams that could be considered dynasties. The 1996-2000 Yankees, the early 80's Islanders, and to a lesser extent the Patriots during thier 3 of 4 run..

Yes. You are absolutely right. That one picture right there proves beyond any doubt that Greg Oden "ain't shit." No good basketball player in the history of the game has ever had someone shoot a basket over them when they were out of position. Ever.
