We've had beagles. And we've gotten rid of beagles. They require a lot of exercise and a lot of mental stimulation. If you don't do these things they tend to get neurotic. Ours barked 24/7 and escaped from our yard more times than I can count. They are notoriously hard to housetrain as well, but ours were outdoor dogs, so dunno about that.

I have a friend who is about to give up his beagle because of the same shit. The dog needs so much attention and just refuses to learn any obedience training. Very stubborn. Not to mention it has fucked up everything in his house.

my mom has two beagles currently and had two others previously who passed from old age. they're great dogs, she's never had problems with them...not to mention they're cute as can be!

i got my mom her 1yr old beagle puppy for christmas last year, and i found that breeder through craigslist.

if you're set on getting a puppy maybe a breed rescue.
http://www.tribeagles.org/ is an awesome rescue.
they have puppies and adults. and adopting from a dog thats in foster care has its perks.
foster parents can tell you about the dogs training, personality, likes/dislikes, etc..
and you save $ on vet bills. the adoption fee costs less than paying out of pocket and totalling up all the bills.

I'm lucky... we have a boxer and a brittany, and neither of them bark.

the boxer sometimes barks in his sleep, but that's a bout it.

I've got two beagles, one was given by friends and the other was bought for about $200 from a breeder at the fairgrounds when they still sold dogs there. The little one took forever to house train, but now they're perfect about not making mistakes in the house. They are quite stubborn, but I'd get a beagle again. They're very loving dogs, and not very messy. Good around kids, etc.

I have a Beagle never really barks, and was very easy to house train. They are very loving and expressive animals. I would recommend a beagle, any puppy at first will test your patience. Check with a local vet and hunt clubs

sometimes they are in the ag review. beagles are really good for rabbits and the bigger ones are decent for deer. they won't run as far as the bigger dogs, but sometimes the deer can get away from them.

Yeah, if you are looking for information on beagles, you should talk to a hunter. They're used a lot to run rabbits. If you'd like to purchase an inexpensive puppy, this is also the route to go. Just pick up a bargain trader at a gas station or some other kind of magazine that caters to hunters and hunting supplies. My uncle use to raise and train beagles for rabbit hunting and you can usually pick up a puppy (esp. untrained) for very litle.

And if I remember correctly, they do shed a lot. I do not remember if it is year round, but I do remember being covered in dog hair every time I had to help my uncle with the dogs.

They do shed a lot. That's why ours were outdoor dogs.

$700 is ridiculous for a beagle. You should be able to find an AKC registered beagle pup for $150 or less. Since beagles are hunters they are going to bark. Just go to an animal shelter and you should be able to find one there.
