This is the last I'll post on it, since people don't read and always misconstue thoughts(go TWW!)

I don't care about trash talk, and it doesn't bother me. I don't care about the fans, and I know it is all in fun and competition. River's is a competitor and emotional, its why he was so fun to watch here at State. However, immediatly after they showed him turned and yelling into the stands at the end of the game my first thought was, "well fuck now we have to hear about this all day Monday." And I've gotten in my car 3 times today for 10-15 minute trips, and had espn radio on w/ 3 different sports talk guys and what did I hear about Rivers? That shit. I didn't hear about how great of a game he had, or the fact that he's lead a what was once left for dead team to the conference championship. I gotta hear about some stupid bs that is meaningless. And I know this is what the media does, but I'd much rather have spent the day hearing about how the current athletic face of NC State tore apart "the fastest defense in the NFL" than about his immaturity with the fans. For those of you who don't listen to sports talk throughout the day you probably don't realize how big of an issue this non-issue has become in 24 hours.

Being an NC State fan/alumn we have so little going for us in the realm of athletics right now. I always took solace in the fact that Rivers was a great competitor and one of the few aspects of NCSU athletics I didn't find myself having to constantly defend to friends/relatives/non-ncsu fans. Remeber most people didn't watch this guy play for 4 years in college, they don't know about the things he did here on the field. Now on top of the shitty bball team, and below par football seasons of late, I have to also hear about this shit as well. I'm just running out of energy defending NCSU and now this is just another piece of amunition for people to point to.

if you're upset about the situation, then be upset at the media for blowing it out of proportion and making such a big deal out of a non-issue. pr did nothing wrong imo. yeah i'm biased, but like someone else said, sports are biased. if a unc qb did something like this, of course i would hate him, b/c i hate unc. but if a wake forest qb did something like this, i wouldn't mind at all.

in fact, you could even make an argument that it's pr's fire- his dont take crap from nobody and do what it takes to get the job done attitude (and everything that comes with it)- that has reinvigorated this team in the last half of the season.

There were two instances I saw of Rivers talking trash to the fans. In one, yes, he was saying "thank you, thank you very much" But in the other, he is right up at the fans, and can clearly be seen yelling at the fans. I seriously doubt, at that point, he was yelling thank yous to them.

Total classlessness by a player, who by now, should know better. Players get yelled at, and taunted by fans all the time, yet you hardly ever see them react like Rivers. And after the Cutler thing, you would have thought he would have been keeping himself more in line.

I haven't listened to match Sportstalk radio today. But I can't imagine they didn't talk about the Indy fans booing a 15 year old girl who won her age group in PPK just because she won in New England's region.

That said Sean Salisbury used to be Philip's biggest supporter but when things looked bleak this year he turned on him like a pro wrestler making a Heel turn. Because Philip's a QB and white (race plays a role in this) he's not allowed to talk smack to the fans. While most black players get a free pass. I saw no obscenities coming out of Philip's mouth towards fans. The fans I am sure were hurling F-Bombs galore. They booed him because when he left he had just thrown a TD pass to Sproles. Let the talking heads talk, if San Diego doesn't win it will have nothing to do with the Philip being immature but to him not being 100 %. Normally the teams that make it to the Super Bowl are the ones that are the healthiest. Whatever ESPN and the mainstream media want the Packers-Patriots Super Bowl. I told my Co-Workers that he is a fiery guy on the football field, and you can't argue with results.

^^^Yes, I am a Vick fan, and I will admit a lot of things he did were a total lack of class. I can admit when my player is like that. I am not blinded by my love for him as a player and go into denial and start making up excuses as to why its not a big deal etc...

And Georgia State doesn't have a football team. And as I have reminded you time and time again, Georgia State has gone just as far in the NCAA tourney in the last 10 years as NCSU has.

none of this matters. Rivers played very well against the Colts in Indy. Most people who are making a big deal about this are mad about the colts loss and using PR as a blowoff valve...

All that matters is the game next week. If the chargers pull a miracle in that game, then all the pundits will be cockriding him. If the pats win then they will continue loving on Brady and this dumb trash talking issue will be forgotten in the rush of Bradyslobbin'...

his body language as he yelled to the fan tells me nothing about what he was saying, since he had to lean into everything he said to anybody because the place is absurdly loud.

personally, i imagine it was something like the fan yellin for him to go home, and rivers sayin somethin about the colts goin home. nothing malicious, though i do wish he'd knock it all off and stop givin people ammunition. at least til he's reached a status like some of these other players who can get away with it without us havin to hear about it nonstop.

I guess I'm failing to see the connection the media and some people in this thread want to make between talking shit and being annoying (which is what it looks like PR is doing), and being a total basketcase who might explode at any minute (Ryan Leaf). You can approve or disapprove of PR running his mouth to the other team or fans, whatever, but I just don't see the correlation between that behavior and being emotionally disturbed in the way that Leaf was. If there were rumors or reports of Philip flipping out on teammates/coaches/reporters/whoever in the locker room and at practice and stuff, it would be different, but I sure as heck haven't heard anything like that. It all just seems like idle speculation to try to make a story. It just seems like the sportswriters want to correlate trash-talking (or even poor sportsmanship if you want to call it that) with being a total nutcase, which is disingenuous and unfair.

But that's just my $0.02.

We, as NCSU fans, know he's not SAYING anything worth writing about. Thats whats
so frustrating about it. The media doesn't buy that, and maybe they shouldn't, but until he
gives someone the bird and I see him say "fuck you" .... something every other player in the league would yell,
then I don't want to hear about it. Personally, I think its a little womanly to
not use any curse words and it kinda makes him sound like a goon, but its the reason that

the fans have the right to yell at & heckle players, but they cant get moody if the players respond back to them

that said, rivers does need to learn how to ignore them & keep his head in the game (easier said than done though, i mean personally i know i would do something similar to rivers which is probably why i dont hold this against him)

if he keeps doing this, then the fans will use it against him on the road all season next year just trying to get under his skin

If this is the worst thing River's ever does in the NFL every single NFL fan should be happy. Classless are the players that are involved in drive-by shootings, sex parties on boats, goin to vegas and causing legal trouble, yet still believe they deserve a spot on a team and get paid $$$$. The fans aren't the ones having the problem because they got shit talked back to them. Its that Rivers showed no class by not ignoring them, and firing back at them. Almost all other QBs of Rivers caliber never fire back at the fans and ignore them like they are supposed to. The problem is that Rivers showed no signs of being a mature QB and being able to handle the situation like someone in his position should at this point in his career. When is the last time you saw Favre, or Manning, Brady, or another top QB in the NFL behaving like Rivers has? This is why the media is making such a big deal out of all of this. As NCSU fans, you people are just ignoring the reality that Rivers acted in poor taste. Like I mentioned before, if Jay Cutler or another QB rolled up into the Panthers stadium and did this, every single one of you would be on here calling for his head, or for him to be fined or suspended and making a HUGE deal about this, and don't for one second sit here and say you wouldn't.
