Hey everybody, if anybody is interested in a co-op opportunity for the spring with Alcatel, please email me at kiran_dot_karra_AT_gmail_dot_com and send me your resume.
Ideally, the student should be good with programming, you'll almost definitely have to learn Python/wxPython. Also, Verilog experience such as ECE406 is good to have. I did it this past summer and am working part-time, and this is a really good learning opportunity.

What he really wanted to say was, you'll need to know how to write scripts to generate verilog test cases to run through the simulations. 11/16/2006 12:01:15 PM |

^^^ Because TWW is now indexed by Google.
Sounds like a good opportunity ... why the restriction to ECE students if it's primarily programming? 11/16/2006 12:11:10 PM |

haha, and now rflong's post can be spambotted and the n00b's underscore trickery will be all for naught

b/c its a position dealing with FPGA development and knowledge of general computer architecture (chip level) is important. The position generally implies generating test scripts to monitor and characterize and optimize performance of bleeding edge hardware.
Not really a "programming" job... it could be done by a csc person, but that would be a waste of an opportunity.
Not at all cracking on CSC people, I avoid application level and root level software like the plague and I'm glad some people enjoy that... (no joke or sarcasm)11/16/2006 8:15:06 PM |

yeah, it is probably a lame post,
but definitely the group I work for, and the group you will be getting into (SOC - System on Chip) is in my opinion the best one at Alcatel. You need to have a good understanding of digital hardware (or be inclined to like that kind of stuff), which is why I said ECE. 11/16/2006 11:59:09 PM |

This position sounds REALLY intriguing to me (I like that embedded type stuff and was pretty decent with verilog in 406), but my resume isn't that strong. 11/17/2006 12:35:19 AM |

willingness to learn is the most important thing... and there is precedence for a <3.0 GPA's to be hired when they were extremely desperate for help... 11/20/2006 12:26:47 PM |
