So...a toner cartridge is going to cost me more than my printer did.
How sketch are those 'reconditioned' (refilled/rewhatever) toner cartridges? 11/16/2006 6:13:16 PM |

I litterally bought a new printer the last time my toner went out...
it would ahve been the same price... but then I opted for the photo printer... but that was over a year ago... so they are probably cheaper than the cartridges now too 11/16/2006 6:16:46 PM |

Well, they use cheap inconsistent plastic rubble for the toner.
My dad showed me some of HP's research into it (so yeah it's biased) but a visual comparison of HP's toner vs the remanufactured toner showed that HP's plastic bits were essentially uniform in size and shape and the remanufactured stuff ranged in size/shape pretty widely.
This basically means that whatever prints out might not be consistent or may even gunk up the laser printer. The risk is probably lower than you think for that to happen though. I'd say that unless you buy a really shitty remanufactured cartridge (or do it yourself and have no idea what you're doing) you won't have any problems.11/16/2006 7:07:15 PM |

the people at cartrige world told me that HP printers have the cheapest ink, and last the longest... and for the most part they seem to be some of the cheapest printers 11/16/2006 9:30:33 PM |

Epson makes some fucking expensive ink.
But, yes Quagmire I concur with your post, h.p does make some fuck win printers, I just bought one. The ink costs @ 30 - 40% the price of the printer and comes in sets not just one big fucking tanker, so it does save money over time. 11/16/2006 9:53:49 PM |

I bought a toner refill kit for my printer, and I haven't had any problems. And they're cheaper than the refurbished toner carts. 11/16/2006 10:02:05 PM |

Hmm...should have bought a Brother. I got a Brother HL-5140 for $250 everything included, and picked up an extra toner cartridge ($90 for a 3500-page cartridge I think) while I was at it. This was the summer before my freshman year. I'm now in my junior year and my toner light is flashing at me for the first time (but still printing great). 11/16/2006 10:51:10 PM |

...at Tiger Direct
^^^I paid either $70 or $80 for my printer. I can pay ~75-85 for a 3K page cartridge, or $~120-140 for a 6K page.
How much do you not print? I bought this printer in January. 11/16/2006 11:48:11 PM |

I think it's funny that half of you don't know the difference between toner and ink.
And get a remanufactered toner cart. Yes there is a difference, no you aren't going to give a damn on a blank & white laser printer. There isn't going to be any discernable difference, and it's not going to bring any harm to your printer. 11/17/2006 1:03:57 AM |
