Seemed like he was starting to turn the corner in SC, and was maybe a year or two away from some tangible success, but here goes the rumor mill churning again......

i always that it was Mark Richt's job if he wanted it. Then choice 1(b) would be Schiano

Richt will never go to Miami.....maybe from the FSU coordinator spot, but not from a head coaching job at georgia.
UGA has 10 times the $$$ than the Miami athletic dept. Huge support, and that man is a god in athens. Never gonna happen.
Schiano is a possibility, and supposidly there are rumors on Miami sites, Gator boards, etc. that after the Clemson game, the visor is packing his shit for south beach! 11/19/2006 10:44:46 AM |

Can't see Spurrier going to Miami from South Carolina. Why?
It seems to me like Miami is on its way to a permanent decline of sorts. The problems with the program and the money in the athletics program in general are well known. 11/19/2006 10:53:33 AM |

Wow. Florida is pretty much Miami's most hated rival. Although when Spurrier was coach, they didnt play at all I believe. Spurrier could be very successful at Miami. 11/19/2006 11:02:33 AM |

I'd be curious if the Miami guys in the NFL donate big sums back to the U for situations just like this. You can't tell me the Ray Lewis's, Shockey's, Andre Johnson's, Portis, Edge's, Wayne's, couldn't circle the wagons and come up with 2.5 a year, the going rate for a top ten coach. 11/19/2006 11:04:23 AM |

Quote : | "In a move that would shake college football, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has been targeted as a leading candidate to succeed Larry Coker should he be dismissed as Miami head coach, a source close to the situation said Sunday.
Coker is expected to be fired after Thursday's game against Boston College.
Miami president Donna Shalala had hoped Coker could win the final two games of the season and then could argue to bring him back. But at 5-6 and with the team in danger of missing a bowl, influential trustees and boosters have begun inquiring about prospective replacements and identified Spurrier, the former Florida coach, as the top choice with the goal of making a splashy hire.
A person close to Spurrier said he is interested in the position largely because he can compete in the state of Florida against his former school and believes he could win a national championship there.
Spurrier makes about $1.3 million a year at South Carolina and has 5 years remaining on his contract. Miami would likely be able to pay him at least $500,000 a year more annually. " |

Quote : | "South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier denied a report Sunday that he is a candidate for the head coaching job at Miami, which could become vacant after the season.
A source close to the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad earlier Sunday that Spurrier was being considered as a replacement for current Miami coach Larry Coker, who has suffered through a season full of turmoil and is widely rumored to be on the way out.
"I am not a candidate," Spurrier told ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel. "I took this job to do what the experts said couldn't be done, which was to win an SEC championship here. We've got a good recruiting class coming in, we think.
"That [Miami] is a tough job. This is the challenge for me."
Spurrier is 13-10 in two seasons in Columbia. The Gamecocks are 6-5 as they prepare to play in-state rival Clemson on Saturday.
Spurrier makes about $1.3 million a year at South Carolina and has 5 years remaining on his contract.
When Spurrier left Florida to coach the NFL's Washington Redskins in 2002, he said he desired to coach somewhere that expectations weren't so immense on a yearly basis. But a move to Miami would certainly bring added expectation. Coker is under intense pressure and scrutiny despite compiling a 53-9 record prior to this season.
On Friday, South Carolina unveiled a near-$200 million proposal that included expanding the stadium by up to 8,000 seats and an $11.4 million academic learning center. " |

well to Roy's credit, he said "I could give a shit about UNC right now" just moments after losing a heartbreaker in the National Championship game. 11/19/2006 2:47:33 PM |

this thread is dumb. Spurrier wouldnt go there. Florida isnt Miami's top rival. Richt wouldnt leave a more prestigous program like Georgia for Miami (at the VERY least they are tied, but with a MUCH long history, better fans, much better college atmosphere, much better stadium etc. I have Georgia above Miami). 11/19/2006 2:57:31 PM |
