I almost went to work for them until I got into a professional school. I had changed my mind for the for the most part about working for them already due to the rash of SEC violations that they experienced, and the fact that they were so shady that American Express spun them off and required they change their name.

We had a lady from Ameriprise who came out to our office and talked to us for about an hour how no one is going to be able to retire without the proper coaching. She breifly talked about how much you need to save and Roth IRA's and stuff. Apparently she is a franchise owner.

So my story is I put this card in one of those fish bowls around town. Won the free lunch, Ameriprise dude spoke for a few minutes and then went on his merry way. Thanks dude.
Most of us put we weren't interested in learning anything further on the form we filled out. Some of us put MAYBE we'd want to hear from him about such n such. So this guy calls and I say, "I don't think I'm really interested right now." He calls three of the other people and they basically tell him the same thing.

He has harrassed most of us, once every few weeks after we repeatedly told him no up until a few months ago...I had put my business card in there September of 2005. So pretty much a full year this guy was harrassing us when we told him we weren't interested.

I've been called by this dude (same scenario--with Fishbowl and lunch)

Almost weekly since Sept.

2 weeks ago I told him I was too busy to talk because I'd be traveling for work and i'd call him when I get a chance....he called me the NEXT DAY and then again today.

same dude?

WTF

I have a Roth IRA and a One Account (money market) through them. Not really sure if it is worth the cost yet, but I will give it a year and see.

I only know of 1 person that thinks much of starting out with them at the main office as an employee....if you start out as an associate with an advisor that already has an office of their own you are much better off, much like working for an independent advisor. But this is a very difficult position to obtain.

The guys that call you every week are the guys that will eventually not make it because if they are calling a bad lead every week they must not be generating new ones. Give it 3-6months and he will leave you alone.

The other option is to tell him that you don't want him calling you anymore and threaten him that you will contact the Gov't and have him fined if he calls again....then he should leave you alone.

They do lunches at the restaurant I work at and they always leave me good $$

BUT I have a personal beef with them... my grandmother uses them as her financial advisors- pays into her retirement and essentially MY retirement stuff through this guy... well, you can pay into your IRA for a given year before that year starts and after it ends, and this advisor guy let her pay into it 3 times. She's getting older and the reason she uses the advisor is so he can help her keep track of that kind of thing. She had to pay a lot of penalties because that guy wasn't looking out for her like he was supposed to. Could just be that guy, but she doesn't use him anymore.

I got suckered into going to one of their recruitment meetings about a year ago. I met this lady in a wheel chair at the mall. She was a cashier at a dept. store. We had a discrepancy over a price, so I just ran and got the sign for her so things could speed along. Anyway, she asked if I was looking for a job, and I said yes because the company I was working for was looking like it was about to go under. She said I would be helping people get out of debt and helping them save money for retirement. I had no idea what the company was about. The meeting seemed all good, so I figured why not try it out. The second meeting I went to was where I figured out that it was a shady op. They tell you that you'll be doing 10 or 20 "interviews" with potential clients, making you think that they've got them all lined up for you. Then they drop the ball and say that YOU are responsible for getting the potential clients together. They suggest starting with your family and friends. Needless to say, I say the hell with this and got out of there. The one thing that kept crossing my mind while I was sitting in their recruitment meeting and the next day training meeting.... This place is nothing more than a freaking money hungry cult. I wish this thread came up earlier in time so that I could be more specific about this story. Oh well, don't fall for any of their recruitment stuff unless you know a lot of people who want you to come over and tell them all the stuff they are doing wrong with their money.

A friend of mine graduated and started working there about 6 months ago. The pay wasn't that good and he had to work 60 hours a week and the work was awful. He quit and works front desk at a hotel now and thinks it is a much better job.

Thats all I know about them. That and I see fishbowls all over the place.

I appreciate getting free lunch from them, but that's about all they're good for.

a girl in my office "won" a lunch last week so I went along. The girl from Ameriprize was cute so I gave her my real number. Now she wants me to come in for an initial consult. I told her on the phone that I'm not her target client and I won't be spending any money, but she still wants to meet. I'll probably call and cancel, but I should ask her out anyway.

I appreciated the licensing and the challenge. Honestly, had it not been for the experience with them, I wouldn't have my new job which is rather awesome. I can't hate too much...
