I'm thinking about switching up my current plan (hit different muscles on different days) and doing something like a push/pull plan. One day is push, one day is pull, then rest.

my plan is to hit the gym 5 days a week, mostly cardio

eat less and much better, fruits veggies, rice and beans, cottage cheese, wheat bread, etc

well see its easier for me to get big than it is to get cut, I wanna be big before I get cut anyways

A big thing to do is stop drinkin sodas...for real they add like 15 pounds I swear.

But i wish I could have a diet that said THIS is what u need to eat and have it say specific things.

i mean im liftin right now where Im on the track to get big not to get cut...I do low rep high weight so...im actually not even workin to get cut at all.

no, I mean for ME to get cut, I would have to commit to a certain level of diet/working out that I know I would never do... I am definitely a "bulky" guy, it would take a LOT of work for me to get cut. I can get big easy, but cut, no. My problem is that I always get bored after a few weeks of working out... if its a sport, I can play all day, every day, but if its just in a gym, I get bored as shit

Back in the day, I was 150, thin, and the mass I did have was muscle mostly. I hit my peak 5 years ago running track and cross country. I was considering running for a DII school, but I didn't want to subject myself to Mars Hill or Lenoir-Rhyne.

And then the summer before my senior year I was at a barbecue and my fucking stupid ex-gf dumped hot charcoal on my foot b/c she wasnt paying attention. That, and I always had a recurring hip problem.

Nowdays I'll get out and run from time to time, but I'm nowhere near where I was. I hovered at 160-165 for my first 3 years of school, and then this past year I gained 10 pounds because I just stopped being active all together due to schoolwork, wage work, and my own sloth. I don't look that much larger than I did 2 years ago, but I feel heavier now when I am being active, definately.

I want to get back to doing at least 2 miles a day. That's all I want. I just want to lose weight (my target is to get back to 160) and be able to do decent in a 5K again. I'm taking run conditioning next semester, and I'm going to actually give myself time every day to run.

My diet is pretty sporadic. I don't eat snacks, but I drink beer and sodas. I smoke a little, nothing significant. I eat pretty heathy at meals, as long as I'm cooking. I have a bad habit of copping out in favor of Bojangle's.

I'm starting to hit the gym frequently..I paid to join one in Apex cuz carmichael sucks & I have more motivation if i pay an extra monthly fee to use one.
I'm not doing any real strength lifts though..just getting the pretty muscles bigger

Then at least 20 mins of cardio to end it... minimum 3 times a week. I just need to lose about 5-10 lbs and I'll be excellent

As far as diet I'm trying to snack less before I go to bed and also am staying away from fried foods when possible (DIET IS 10X HARDER THAN EXERCISE)

Check out Body for Life - it's workouts are solid and if you follow the diet, you will get cut. There are tons of recipes available for that plan as well. I follow the workouts, but not the diet so much and I've been able to stay in good shape ever since I left college and started having less time to workout. My brother follows the Body for Life plan religiously and he is basically an amateur body builder. It is a good plan.

if you want to get into shape run-conditioning is a great class for it. It helps for those days you just don't want to go work out, but with a class like that you don't really have a choice. Its a pretty good way to compliment a lifting program too. I ran a few miles during class every day and would work out the other days of the week using weights and got into really good shape....then I graduated and got a day job....

i try to do upper body 3x/week, and legs 2x/week, just because I only can get off my ass to go carmichael twice/week to use actual leg machines

the gym here in wolf village is dumbells, cardio machines, and balls/mats/etc, but it's sufficient to get down there and off my rear end and do something

i try to run at least 2x/week around campus, and campus is just as unsightly on weekends when you have a chance to 'enjoy' it

i'm gonna try to get into a boxing gym after Christmas Break when I actually have some money

all this talk about getting cut is different that getting into shape.

U wanna get cut? give up everything you like to eat (except one meal on holidays) and commit to significant daily cardio in addition to strength training 3-4 days a week. No holidays on the excercise....

"cut" is a life commitment, no such thing as in and then out.... getting in shape leaves so much more room for slackness and enjoyment of the little things....

(I cant give up the beer)

go here if you want serious advice. the people that post in this forum are the computer geeks that were never capable of playing sports, so they just sat there and overanalyzed everyone else that could.

^^he's right about getting cut is a lifestyle change and completely different from getting in shape.

you need to dedicate a day to legs instead of trying to combine it with one of these. you're not going to get much out of a training program unless you work legs and work them hard.

well seeing as how its roughly the same caloric content (before mixers), whats the point?

youll have to cut out drinking as a whole.

cardio 5-6 days a week, lift 3 days a week

diet is fewer calories than i can burn, never eating within 3 hours of bedtime, no snacking, and closely monitoring what i eat (like today, i had 2 waffles w/ teaspoon of peanut butter, a burger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions for lunch w/ fries, and i probably won't eat much for dinner, maybe some tuna or chicken). It may not be good for me, but at least i'm tracking it in hopes of correcting it eventually.

shape right now is pretty bad but it will get better

i've lost ~20 lbs since mid-october

i've got about 65 to go before i'm happy, and another 10 after that to reach what i was when i left ROTC.

i'm doing it for my own reasons and because i'm sick of weight holding me back w/ the ladies (especially if i want a family in the next 5-10 years) and constantly being a struggle on my confidence and self-esteem.

the hardest part about it all is patience, especially when you've already met the one ya wanna be around at least for the near future.

eat a ton of protein when dieting. it keeps you satiated for longer and fills up your stomach quicker; both of which can keep you from overeating.

cutting back on the heavier beers will help a bit, but cutting back on alcohol altogether seems to work best in terms of weight loss.

the kicker is that alcohol:

1. slows down your metabolism until your body rids of it (its a natural sedative)

2. and some of the alcohol is converted into acetaldehyde, which also requires ridding of by the liver. this adds to the time your metabolism is acting suboptimally

3. it dehydrates you makes you thirsty, but your hypothalamus is drunk and interprets it as hunger so most people eat more

i've experienced very effective weight loss when i took a month off of drinking altogether and ate normally and exercised often.

drinking actually speeds up metabolism, but it adds calories at the same time. drinking one serving might speed up metabolism enough to burn off the drink and a little more, but multiple drinks will just result in excess calories.

the big killer is that multiple drinks shuts down protein metabolism, so if you go work out and then go drink later that day then you'll actually end up losing muscle. every time you went and had a hellacious workout and followed it up with a night at the bar, you were only shooting yourself in the foot.

drinking a glass of wine or a light beer a day isn't going to hurt you that bad, but most people don't drink one beer or one glass of wine. keep in mind that in a case of miller light (one of the lightest and higher alcohol content beers), there is still 2300 calories. if you drank a case a week, you'd have to adjust your diet and exercise enough to burn off over 34 pounds.

can anyone recommend a good diet in which the person wants to eat the same meals, every single day of the week?

like breakfast to dinner and all the snacks in between
