As someone who has fucked up both ankles in the past, I got to say this really sucks for Randolph. I am not a fan of his and hate him for not coming to play for State, but I've been impressed that he had been able to stick in the NBA, especially when no one thought he could make it out of college. He'll have a very tough road back if it's as bad as it sounds. 11/30/2006 5:36:51 PM |

I did this playing volleyball on some wet grass almost 4 months ago.
Broke my ankle and tore the tendons, my toes were pointing down towards the ground when I was lying on my back. Took them 3 hours to get me some pain medicine.
Just started walking about 3 weeks ago.
I really wish I had a picture of it from me lying in the hospital.

i'm a big nba fan. and i am a big shav fan as well. this injury is very unfortunate, especially when he was just starting to get some decent playing time and playing well. hopefully he will be able to recover and come back at full strength 11/30/2006 8:00:56 PM |

I feel for him but he's a member of my increasing list of ACC players that I would've never guessed would play more in the NBA than Julius Hodge. 11/30/2006 8:08:16 PM |

Maybe his mom will fly out and cut his steak for him while he recovers.. that should expedite the entire process.11/30/2006 9:01:59 PM |

I did something similar to that while helpng move some things in PMC, but I tore my ligaments in my left ankle, not the bone too. I can also say from experience, that was the worst pain of my life right after the intitail shock of the fall. Then when the blood started ruishing to injury, I almost passed out before I got my foot elevated. When I went to see the surgeon about it the first time (Dr. David Faigenbaum, One of the football team's doctors), he said it probably would have been better to just break the bone than tear the ligaments. So if Shavlik more than likely tore all of his ligaments too, then it will probably take upwards of 6-8 motnhs to be even able to walk on it without the help of a brace or orthopedic boot. Had to have reconstructive surgery on my ankle a month after the accident. Long recovery process. 1 month in the cast, 3 months in the orthopedic boot, then 3 months on with a brace. 7 months in total.
I never liked him as a player when he was at Duke, but I do wish him the best because I can certainly sympathize with him.

^^^sure i talk about that night at reynolds. i'm guessing you might be a leesville grad? it was a great game and something special for high school bball...unfortunately we came out on the losing end.
as for the nba...people often criticize the effort the players put out and that may be valid. but all the players are so talented and athletic that you have to appreciate that when you watch.
however, i realize i'm in the minority when it comes to my liking the nba...and i'm fine with that. 12/1/2006 7:39:29 AM |

doesn't suprise me that something like this would happen to a frail bitch like shavlik randolph. i still can't believe his ass is in the nba. fucking crazy.
