I have Comcast cable internet and it runs from the modem to a VoIP router and then into a Netgear wireless router. Even though its wireless, I have it wired into my computer because it is next to it.

This morning I started getting spotty service; it would load a web page, then time out, then later load another. I called Comcast and they said it isn't the cable, which is right because I plugged it directly from the cable modem into my computer and its all fine and dandy. It isn't the VoIP router because my phones work fine when its plugged up normally. It has to be something with the Netgear router. Any ideas other than simply unplugging it, waiting a few minutes, and plugging it back up? I tried that, but it didn't seem to work. I will try it again over the next few minutes.

Thanks if you can help.

Probably just have to replace the router. You have one of those combination router/cable modems right? It's probably the cable modem side.

No, it isn't a combination.

You tried plugging it into a wired connection on the router yet?

^ Reading comperhension FTW

Have you tried plugging directly into the VoIP router? Personally I'd have my network wired as follows:

Cable Modem ==> Wireless router ==> Computer and VoIP box.

It's one less hop your computer has to make.

It seems as if you've already isolated the wireless router as the problem. You might try upgrading the router firmware.

Upgrading firmware sounds like a pretty good bet. Do I do that through the netgear website or directly through the router with that 192.168 address?

Thanks guys, I downloaded the update but am going to leave it on my desktop. I unplugged all the gizmos and then rebooted them in the order the information flows and it seems to have stopped acting up. I'll update the firmware if it starts being a bitch again.

Thanks for your help and for not making fun of me
