Holy fucking shit. $3M/yr. Christ. NO college coach should make that much. I don't blame him for leaving his alma mater for that.

Apparently he went on TV in WVa fucking pissed off and said that he will coach the rest of his career at WVU if they would have him. The way this article and the ESPN report I heard earlier sounded this was a sure deal.. now I'm not so sure after hearing how pissed off he was at this report. He was literally screaming into the microphone.

To go further on ^^^ - From one of the WVU boards:
"I will do my best to sumarize. He called into Sportsline, stating that he was at Lakeview with the team when he got a tearful call from Rita asking if he knew what they were saying about him and the Alabama job.
He was so enraged that he could hardly talked. He stated that he had not talked or negotiated with Alabama. That he was totally focused on getting ready for Rutgers and recruiting for WVU. That it was irresponsible journalism and that it could be harmful to the recruits that would be here tomorrow.
He stated that he planned to be the coach at WVU as long as we would have him.
It is hard to discribe the aggitation that he exhibited, but it certainly did not sound like a man counting the money for his next job." 12/1/2006 8:03:00 PM |

I love this headline:
"Bama to decide on Rodriguez within 3 days"
I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Rodriguez that makes the decision. 12/6/2006 9:03:18 PM |

i couldn't have imagine him ever leaving Morgantown; he's a god up there
but money talks, as always
and alabama, regardless of recent history, is still a top-five college program imho 12/6/2006 9:05:29 PM |

maybe I'm biased because I followed WVU growing up because of my grandpa who is an alum and a die hard mountaineer fan as well as a west virginia native. But, I think that WVU is a good program and always has been. Sure, alabama was once the shit, but that is over now. WVU has the chance to write it's own place in the history books and has just as much of a chance at being a perennial top 5 as alabama does. Not to mention the fans fucking love him and are some of the best fans in the nation. Plus, like it was said before, the expectations aren't nearly as high. Oh, and did I mention he's a former player for wvu? It just seems like a no-brainer to me. 12/6/2006 9:42:17 PM |

Bama would have to hire Amato to have a shitty season next year. They're on the right track and fucking retarded for firing Shula. I'd love to see Rodriguez go; he'd easily capitalize on next season's potential and build a nearly unstoppable program from there. 12/6/2006 11:18:01 PM |

Bama offered him. This should be interesting. If he accepts Bama won't win a SEC Championship or NC and he will be gone in 3-4 years... I can't imagine walking away from your alma mater and hometown with Slaton and White with 2 years left but $$$ talks..

SportsCenter just opened with "reportedly, Rich going Alabama..."
But check this: there's a $2 mil PENALTY if Rich leaves before next August, which I assume Bama would pick up. They must really love this guy.
And yeah, he owes his power duo BIGTIME. 12/7/2006 6:03:04 PM |

I hate to say "I told you so," but "I told you so."
I hate ESPN for their lack of journalistic prowess, pronosticating the future and making outlandish claims before stuff goes down. A lot of swinging and missing on ESPN's part. They need to stop making predictions on games through their hard news segments.
