Hey guys, alot of you probably have some humanities GERs that you are required to take. Please be aware of what you're getting into in COM 103. Depending on the teacher, the class can be entertaining HOWEVER, if you have Dr. Caple, you are required to put on a symposium (hour long play) towards the end of the semester and are require to complete 10 service hours for a play either being an Usher, stage crew or some other position. If you think it is an ez bs class... think again. On our symposium (play) we spent an additional 6 hours a week (in addition to scheduled class hours) preparing for the play/learning our lines. If you are interested in Theatre and want to try out someting new, I'd recommend it, however, If you want to get paid to work instead of slaving out your potentially useful and precious time as an NCSU college student, I'd pass on COM 103 12/4/2006 10:50:47 AM |

Well, I was in that class on the first day one semester, and I realized it was going to be too much for me so I dropped it. Dr. Caple seemed like a nice lady. Didn't go through the grind of the class, so I don't know what she's truly like, but probably wants the most out of her students. 12/4/2006 11:11:07 AM |

She does and she is a nice lady and from reading about her experiences in Theatre she is an accomplished actress and director. Being a good teacher however, is much different from being a good actor 12/4/2006 11:15:23 AM |

seeing as you are a freshman, you have plenty of time on your hands and can easily complet the course successfully if you actually put forth some effort

Fair warning, but use school tool if you want the message to get out. This thread will be lost in a week or two and eventually deleted. I'm taking a wild guess and saying school tool will be more looked at.
In general, classes are supposed to be 2-3 hours of work outside of class per week for every one credit hour. The requirements you listed don't sound too bad ... I think I spent 3-6 hours a week outside of class for scuba diving my first semester. 12/4/2006 3:23:02 PM |
