So, every night around the time i'm trying to go to sleep(11ish), the little mexican baby nextdoor (and by baby i really mean like 2 yrs old) starts wailing. apparently his bed/crib is on the other side of my headboard, and he screams for almost an hour. I can hear the people next door stomping around and stuff, so it doesnt seem like they're trying to do anything to calm him. It really seems like they just put him to bed and shut the door and go downstairs. This also happens at about 4 am EVERY morning. I don't want to tell management, b/c I dont want to get them in trouble, but its been going on for over a week now. They dont really speak english, and I dont think I could even explain to them what I am talking about in a way they could understand. The question is, what do I do? Ignore it? tell management? someone want to come over and translate spanish for me????
I know i'll get lots of 'quit bitching' answers, but seriously, this has got to stop.
/end rant. 12/7/2006 9:15:48 PM |

i think if you can't communicate with the family (maybe ask them to move the crib) that if it was me, I'd say something to the management, but be reasonable about it. let them know that you understand that it is a baby and you know they cry, but you need to get sleep. 12/7/2006 9:18:19 PM |

its not shitty, nor full of mexicans, just the townhouse next door is.
I think i'll just go to management, and let them know the situation, but tell them i'm not super mad, but just need someone to talk to them because I can't.
I don't have kids, nor want them, but do understand how they are, which is why i'm trying to not be psycho about it.
I had thought about the social services thing, because sometimes it really seems like the kid is being neglected. (Seriously, letting a kid cry itself to sleep once in a while is fine, but every night just ignoring it for up to 2 hours sometimes is just wrong). I'll do that if management doesnt work.

making babies is definitely not in the plan right now. Especially since the damn baby next door would wake mine up jk. They're scared of my dog (which is hillarious.. she's a goon) but their kid loves her, so maybe i'll let her scare them away. she likes to run up to the kid and lick its face.. but the parents spaz out and the kid just laughs a lot. Can I dog sit for anyone with a meaner looking dog?? 12/7/2006 10:28:50 PM |

How long has this been going on?
If it's less than 2 weeks, then I say give it 2 weeks to see if the kid grows out of it.
I wouldn't want dirty dog mouth on my kid either too.

If he's two...the parents really shouldn't go in and coddle him and get him to shut up, then the crying would go on for years. Inevitably the kid ought to realize they're not coming and stop.
You'd be amazed how long a little kid will cry to get its parents to come in and cuddle. And there really isn't anything it NEEDS, just crying for attention, so I really can't see that as neglect if the parents know the kid isn't hurt or anything.
Just wait though...if they have one two year old now that means they're due to have another kid soon. These Mexicans don't clown around when it comes to regular litters.

Exactly. He doesn't want to go to bed. Then he doesn't want to stay in bed. It's normal for children to go through that.12/8/2006 12:09:07 AM |

i'm pretty sure the people above me beat the hell out of the children, i'll hear a loud stomp and then one of the kids will start wailing and then i'll hear the dad yelling, etc. they are stomping around up there all damn day long. i've just gotten used to it. my room mate and i laugh histerically everytime we hear a loud stomp now, waiting for the kid to start screaming. i'm a bad person 12/8/2006 12:32:50 AM |

I wouldn't see it as neglect however. Parents should never give into a tantrum that a child throws if they don't want to raise a spoiled brat. If you start young with making them realize they won't get their way they will be more behaved when they get older, well for the most part.
I would say that parents are doing a pretty good job by not giving in to their kid.
However, that does suck that it has to be right by your room. 12/8/2006 12:33:49 AM |

I have a 120 lb. Yellow Husky/Chow mix you can borrow! He looks mean, had an AWFUL terrifying bark, but LOVES children and cats.
Warning: He sleeps on his back, snores like a 60 year old man, and farts out loud which makes the most awful stench EVER.

So I was listening last night, and I think the baby that is screaming is NOT the kid i've been seeing outside laughing at my dog. Because I could hear that kid talking, and another something crying loudly. I think they're hiding a baby upstairs! haha.
Yeah, I realize that they shouldn't give in to the kid crying, but it seriously sounds like they just walk upstairs, put it in the room, and leave. Also, ive never seen any female in this apartment but once like a month ago. Oh well, hopefully we're moving soon. 12/8/2006 11:04:14 AM |

you can get a box like this at Walmart for maybe 3 or 4 dollars. They are the best brand IMO... they are comfortable, they stay in, and you can wear them more than one day without them getting disgusting. I know this because sophomore year in the dorms my roommate would talk in his sleep sometimes and wake me up (weird I know) so I just slept with earplugs.

At one point the neighbors next to our apartment were playing their music too loudly. My roomate calmly moved all speakers and the subwoofer of his very powerful surround sound system against that wall and cranked the lobby scene of the Matrix as loud as it could go. Never had a problem after that. 12/11/2006 7:38:45 PM |
