Why would they do this without Michael Anthony on bass. I'm not saying it would be good anyway, but jeez.
From KNAC.com
Eddie Van Halen recently spoke to Guitar World Magazine. This quote is an excerpt from the interview featured in the new issue, and posted on a David Lee Roth fan site:
"I'm telling Dave. 'Dude get your ass up here and sing, witch! Come On!'" says Van Halen. "As it stands right now, the ball is in Dave's court. Whether he wants to rise to the occasion is entirely up to him, but we're ready to go."
"Wolfgang breathes life into what we're doing," says Ed. "He brings youthfullness to something that's inherently youthful. He's only been playing bass for 3 months, but it's spooky. He's locked tight and puts an incredible spin on our dookie. The kid is kicking my ass! He's spanking me now, even though I never spanked him. To have my son follow in my footsteps on his own, without me pushing him into it, is the greatest feeling in the world." 12/12/2006 3:54:19 PM |

this is the kind of thing that you get really pumped about.
then you go and drop money on some kick ass tickets.
and you get there early and buy a Van Halen 2007 tour shirt.
and then they get halfway through jump and you get up and go home because you know that something better is on tv. 12/12/2006 4:00:32 PM |

That's one of the strangest quotes ever, but Michael Anthony is totally replaceable. DLR is not. 12/12/2006 4:33:14 PM |

Van Halen is dead to me, I don't care what they do anymore, been that way for many years now. Ive seen them once back in the day and wouldn't pay to see them again regardless of who is in the band. 12/12/2006 4:35:28 PM |

I'll be honest, if Van halen releases something with DLR singing, I will listen to it. I'm not saying it will be good, but there's always hope. That would be so awesome if they just released an album that was totally old-school sounding. Never happen, but still... 12/13/2006 9:26:41 AM |

I bought the DLR bluegrass version of "Jump" on iTunes, so if anyone's a sucker for DLR, it's me...especially because I hate "Jump." 12/13/2006 9:51:56 AM |

With all due respect to the Hagar years(and there were some great songs there whether you want to admit it or not), Diamond Dave rules you all with or without Eddie Van Halen. 12/13/2006 11:40:45 AM |

the DLR years where he played with Steve Vai were awesome. Vai mops the floor with Van Halen too. Good stuff. 12/13/2006 2:22:54 PM |

Who cars about Van Halen. Their time is up. It was great while it lasted. But now it's over.
Time to move on and bask in your former glory. 12/13/2006 8:14:58 PM |

I'm willing to listen for several reasons:
1. I've loved everything that VH put out (except for Balance - not enough Eddie Van Halen). Even 3 had its moments. 2. Dave was great, but he needed to go, thus the reason for 5150 kicking ass. Once Sammy's ego grew to match Dave's, he needed to go - see no. 1. 3. If Wolfgang is as good on bass as his father and uncle are on their respective instruments, I am goddamn eager to hear him play. 12/14/2006 9:07:57 PM |

I agree that 5150 was the shit. I don't think it was better than Dave's best records with them, but still good. They got so crappy later on though. I guess they were better than Trixter and Slaughter. Michael Anthony's biggest contribution was his backing vocals, esp. live. I saw them a few times with Hagar and Anthony would sing the notes that Hagar couldn't hit live. He always added spot on harmonies. I wonder if Wolfy can do that? Dave will definitely need the help. His voice is shot. 12/15/2006 11:49:32 AM |
