Because people like Who Am I are probably just someone's stupid aliases that they screw around with.. make it to where they can't even use their main name

Banning IP's will never happen b/c it will cut back on money earned.

Um, I'd wager that approximately 95%+ of TWW users have static IP's.

Actually I'd wager that (bullshit statistic) users of TWW have dynamic IPs assigned by some combination of ResNet, RoadRunner, wired or wireless Nomad, and unless they use the same computer every single time, Unity labs as well. Given that scenario, IP bans would be so ineffective that banned users probably wouldn't even notice that they were banned.

Also, ResNet and RoadRunner both will give you a new IP address if you spoof a different MAC address though you have to power cycle the modem in the case of RoadRunner. In Windows, changing the MAC address is in the driver options for most cards. In most *NIX environments, it's part of the networking subsystem. (ifconfig hw ether ab:cd:ef:gh:ij:kl)

Banning the offending users' providers would be pretty effective, but that would also ban every single other user of TWW simultaneously.

All in all I would have to say that this is one of the dumbest ideas ever proposed in FF.

Bakunin already set you straight. But if you don't have the first clue what you're talking about (as you clearly don't if you make a statement like that) why would you bother making it in the first place?

Way back when when I was mod of a Carolina Panthers website, it was hard to ban IPs without banning the innocent....342.23.12* we would do alot, but still a innocent person would be banned even doing it that way. Of course the trouble makers know how to get around it.

they should modify the session list to show what IPs correspond to what usernames at what times and suspend usernames based on that - it's a more manual process but much more likely to get the job done

fuck, the session list might already do that, i've never really seen it

well keep in mind most users would be too lazy or not nerdy enough to know how to do that

I got ip banned on another site while at Wolf Village and it worked all the time I was staying there, at least in my bedroom

and yes people would have to go to the library to take vengence but if they really have nothing better to do there, then it's their loss not ours

Bakunin doesn't realize that everyone here is not a huge nerd like he is.

Here comes his reply with how I and every other TWW user that doesn't know how to do that is an idiot...
