Great move by a bad man facing his last days today.

Quote :
""I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking," Saddam said in the letter published on a Website known to represent the Baath Party.

Click here for FOXNews.com's Iraq Center.

"I also call on you not to hate the people of the other countries that attacked us and who separated the people from those who govern them," Saddam wrote."

I know it is tough but all people worldwide who hate America need to realize that the government does not represent all Americans and there are many people just like me who understand and speak out against their pain.

A good ammount of Americans are great people but certain selfish, egocentric ones ruin the reputation for everyone.

Meanwhile, Iraq is about to get worlds uglier (yes, thats possible).

The realization that death is imminent can change your perspective on quite a few things, I guess.

This from the guy who ordered a genocide on his own people? Sorry, but it seems to me that he's trying to make himself look like a martyr or something.

Executed by hanging. I'm assuming it was fairly recent as well.

oh silly burro, when i said "recently" i meant the time of day. I believed it happened 10 minutes earlier, but wasnt sure as to the exact time, so it was recent.

oh snark is still so cute tho

i'm .really. stunned that they didn't wait a week before hanging him, just so it wouldn't conflict with the holiday...

I'm still kinda weirded out that the people in Iran are celebrating the fact that we did it... i mean, i understand them cheering his death, but cheering for something done by America just seems out of character...

That's not entirely accurate. He was convicted by his fellow Iraqis using their court system and was hanged.

Some people are evil down to the core, for example, Ramsey Clark, his lawyer:

My understanding was that they were trying to speed up the execution so that it happened before eid...doesn't it start on different days for Sunnis and Shiites? Did they maybe get him on Shiite eid and not the Sunni one?

the first eid (came in october this year) is the first day of the 10th month of the islamic calendar. and the calendar is lunar, as you know. so, that eid depends on the sighting of the new crescent, and so is on different days in different countries.

the eid today, is on the last day of the pilgrimage (hajj), and since that takes place only in mecca, the eid is the same all over the world.

2 months ago, the PM (nouri al maliki, is he PM or president?) said that saddam would be executed before the end of the year. no one believed it, as things happen in arab countries weeks to months after they are supposed to happen.

if the only condition was to do it before year-end, they could have done it tomorrow (12/31), and it also would not be eid anymore.

Well, I won't claim to know much about it since my only source (a CNN article that was linked in a Lounge thread that has changed to just being coverage of the execution) has changed, but I could have sworn it said that they fell on different days for each group. But, again, I don't know.

Surely there was some reason that the Iraqi government (or its American handlers, however you want it) decided to put it through today and not tomorrow. I can't see any ulterior motive we might have had.
