Mailboxes have moved over to Withers, and Norene's over there now too. Does anyone know if they're going to remain there permanently or not? Does this affect where we'll be having history classes? I saw Dr. Vincent storming around in a rage trying so I can only assume the move was abrupt and disorganized as hell. 1/2/2007 12:23:48 PM |

Departmental moves never go 100% as planned and require a good year's worth of planning ahead. Usually a faculty member volunteers to spearhead things and be to "go-to" person if something goes wrong. Helpful in those situations to have somebody with some prominence and/or knows people that can fix stuff quick. Not sure how it was handled with the history department, but that's been my experience / what I've heard from a couple of other departments.
And nothing is permanent. Is it located there for awhile ... sure, why not? 1/2/2007 8:51:48 PM |

Y'all have scared me, now I feel like I gotta check in with Norene to make sure she took care of the stuff I dropped off. She might not have even gotten it. I mean, it was a total fucking wreck, it's like they collapsed five offices into one office suite when I got there. 1/2/2007 10:06:03 PM |

There was some talk about the building sinking at one end, and we all sat around wishing we could be there when it gets to the point where they have to take it down. 1/3/2007 4:02:31 PM |

a professor actually told me that they had to make it more handicap accessible and to do that would cost more money than it was worth and they were tearing it down.
he was old though, so ya never know. 1/3/2007 6:52:01 PM |

Nah, they totally redid Withers last summer and I'm guessing a good part of last fall semester. All the windows were knocked out and the inside was nothing but a construction zone. Wouldn't call it scraps, but wouldn't call it brand spanking new either.1/3/2007 7:00:58 PM |

no, it was definitely because it was sinking while every single campus has one building that is falsly rumored to be sinking because they didnt account for the weight of the books, at nc state it is actually true engineers actually completed the building without realizing that the floors needed to support weight nope, it has nothing to do with staying ada compliant 1/3/2007 7:01:30 PM |

^^Actually, that rumor is not true at all. D.H. Hill has been here for much longer than Harrelson (built in the late 60s). It was never intended to be the library at all. I have worked for orientation and the unviersity in student affairs for almost 5 years and this rumor just seems to get worse and worse. The building has a lot of mechanical problems and is too costly to repair, etc. Sociology and Anthropoloy is moving in for the next approx. 2 years until 1911 bldg is renovated then they are moving back and Harrelson is coming down. 1/4/2007 7:34:33 PM |

I would have liked this move I think. Lots of humanities classes are located in Tompkins/Caldwell/Winston, Poe, and the 1911 building. Moving the history classes closer to the court of the carolinas, the hq for humanities, could have shortened many of my walks between classes. 1/6/2007 1:32:45 AM |

those of you that mentioned the repairing and handicapped problems are correct.
starting next year facilities will begin removing all materials from the top floors. you should see the pretty color chart they gave us explaining the whole thing hahaha. ill see if i can make it small enough to post when i get back to work on Monday.
we expect that it wont actually be taken down for another 3-4 years. i doubt it will be a specactular event though. it is so close to other buildings that i dont think they will implode it. 1/6/2007 7:38:33 AM |

Hill was built in the 50s and the additional stack towers were added in 1972 and 1990. In other news, we can't tell if you kids are joking anymore, or if you like pulling the chains of your elders.
Also, skinny pine trees on campus should be abolished. 1/6/2007 9:26:31 PM |
