It doesn't get as much coverage because everyone agrees that it is bad and thus can't be politicized.

^A good point.

Let's face another sad fact: It won't get as much coverage because the likelihood of it spreading into something that directly affects us is minimal. Thus, people aren't going to get as up-in-arms about it no matter how disgusting it is.
