I have a noisy convertible, and every bluetooth headset I have had made it impossible to use in the car. Way too noisy. There is a new bluetooth headset that has came out a little before Christmas called the 'Jawbone'. It uses several methods to eliminate all background noise from your calls. You can find them in some very select Cingular stores, but at the moment, no one I could find sells them. Of course, they were on ebay. I had to shell out $150, but I received mine yesterday.

For the first test, I sat at my computer with the music cranked very high. I called a friend, and he could hear me clearly, with only an ocassional thud in the background. I could barely hear myself when talking. I then tried last night in the car in the torrential rain on the highway. Had a 10 minute conversation with an individual that didnt know I was in the car (sounded clear).

Check it out at http://www.jawbone.com. They have some real conversations recorded over the thing with the noise cancellation on and off. All bluetooth headsets look stupid, and this one isnt any exception, but its nice to be able to carry on a call in some noisy conditions.

We've got those where I work (Cingular-Crossroads) for $119.99-I haven't had a chance to play with one yet, but they're selling as fast as we get them in.

i picked up the blueant x2 a couple of months ago because my plantronics picked up all kinds of road noise in my car, even with the windows up and the sunroof closed...the x2 picks up NO background noise...i'd be interested in seeing how it fared in a convertible

at $34, i couldn't beat it

Those were probably independently owned stores. They aren't carrying Jawbones. My store is the only company-owned store in Cary/Apex/Holly Springs.

it's awesome. i remember wanted one a year or so ago when they only had the wired headset, but was big and bulky. got mine for 90ish with the cingular business discount and worth every penny. this is my 4th bluetooth headset and by far the best. and i like how it comes with several ear buds and ear loops so that it's actually a good snug fit since it has to make a good contact with your cheek to work. only complaint is that it's kinda heavy, but i'm getting used to it.

I have the blueant ^^ too, and I can't vouch for what he's saying. I was sorely dissapointed. I get horrible feedback and echo on both my phones and my computer, and whatever background noice shielding it does have (if any) sucks. now I have 2 of these POSs and and not happy with either of them.

looks like we have a competitor
2 microphones

Quote :
"Gennum's nXZEN noise cancelling Bluetooth headset
http://tinyurl.com/y7u9x5
The nXZEN Bluetooth headset use nXZEN's patented FRONTWAVE EXTREME technology, which utilizes a two-microphone array to sample two separate points in space, providing more information about the environment around the user. The FRONTWAVE EXTREME algorithm is then able to create a hyper-directional 'near field' pick-up beam that targets the speaker's voice and eliminates environmental noise. The technology works to cancel the complex noise found in loud environments like automobiles and factories, all while retaining natural voice inflections.

The headset is available in two models, the nXZEN and the nXZEN PLUS, which also features an audio input port to connect with CD or MP3 players. Using the nXZEN PLUS, users can enjoy music in acoustically accurate stereo sound, with the ability to answer incoming phone calls at the touch of a button.

nXZEN PLUS also provides users with a wireless 8-band graphic equalizer to fine-tune their sound from a personal computer. Both models share a comfortable and extremely secure design, including two different ear loops and three different ear pieces to accommodate any user. "

I'd like to hear samples. I have seen a lot of other headsets out there that hype noise reduction, but the jawbone pretty much completely eliminates it. Ive been using it everyday in the car with absolutely no issues. I knew the prices were going to come down everyday with the jawbone, but I didnt really care... I wanted it last week and didnt care about paying the premium. I understand others will continue to wait.

(no homo)

works like a charm
although it's a challenge to get on my dumbo ears but i guess it has to be touching your jawbone, hence the name, so it's all good. the quality of the audio is all that matters - i can deal with the extra 4 seconds to put the thing on.

I am interested in possibly getting a Jawbone, are there any good reviews online of bluetooth headsets and how the various ones rank in quality that you guys have found? Quick google search didn't pull up very much useful information.

headsets that operate this way have been out for least 18 months... your salesman probably just got you all worked up over a new model of the same thing.

Btw, the buttons on this thing are really annoying and feel awkward
