what sucks the worst is the combo of no pic messaging and no copy/paste. so, when you get a pic msg it's basically a text message with a website to go to followed by a username/pw to use in order to see the picture. this would be great if it was just one link you could click on that was like http://website/username:password/ or something to that effect..but when the username/pw are both random numbers and letters and you can't copy/paste, that sucks. it's my #1 complaint with this phone.

it didn't work half of the time (for me), and since IE didn't support multiple windows/tabs, it was useless. I remember having a hard time copying something from word to outlook. Stuff like that, but this was about 3 years ago.

There's been a hardware (SIM based) unlock thing out for quite some time now. That said, anyone who believes that Apple would continue supporting phones with modified firmware is only fooling themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did what Microsoft does with modded Xboxes.

That feature doesn't/shouldn't require an unlock, though. Like the article mentions, the crack is using the feature in update 1.0.1 to give you the preferred network choice, which means the frontend for it is coming soon from Apple.

i dunno, i thought it was part of the iphone features. When i was in the settings menu there was an option for network and when you click on it, it scans for networks and lets you select which one to use and which one it should 'auto use' etc...

When you say it didn't work do you mean the tap and hold interface or simply the actually copying field to capture or paste correctly. Just curious because I honestly never had a problem with it.

It will be interesting to see how the unlocking affects Apple and how they respond. That exclusivity contract is pretty important.

Do you think if Apple wanted to, they could't curb all this homebrew? It's not hard to engineer a system where the moment you try to update a modded (in this case modified/cracked) iphone, iTunes flags it and you never receive updates again for the life of the phone.

Sure, you could just restore the phone to factory firmware before upgrading, but it wouldn't be hard to address that, either.

I would be surprised. MS blocks Xbox modding so people don't steal games, which is extremely important, since MS takes a loss on the Xboxes.

For Apple, they don't really care if people buy iPhones and install 3rd party apps. It can only increase their sales, and they are making money on the iPhone.

It IS likely though that they will at least casually try and thwart people from unlocking it, because they don't want to piss AT&T off, and they get a kick back from AT&T. However, Apple probably has the priority of growing marketshare over coddling AT&T, so I don't think they'll put too much effort in to blocking the unlock.

Dude, ATT is earning $11 per NEW customer per month from ATT, just because of the exclusivity.

In Europe, it is going to be 10% of the monthly bill.

Over a 2 year contract, that boils down to $264 for nothing but being ATT exclusive. That's a BIG deal.

I have been hearing good stuff about the iSkin Revo, but have been waiting to see it before ordering one. I don't like the other cases because they either modify the form factor of the phone drastically, or scratch the plastic surface. The iSkin brand is known for quality products, and it comes with some antimicrobial coating.

As of now, I am using my iPhone without protection. No problems so far.

I am using the rubber incase and its great. I also have the clear film over the screen so there isn't any part of my iphone exposed. Both work amazing together and i have 0 scratches any where.
