you didn't close your comment tag golovko - it looks like you meant to put the tag in the edit reason part but instead you just put a period

In that post, you originally had

-->
or something like that at the end of your post (which a mod edited out yesterday)...you might not have done it on purpose, but it looks like it screwed something up. theres no way dakota could post replys that quick, and its obvious a mod didn't edit anything because it would show up when you click "edit post"

glad they put out a free software unlock solution. it was a biatch to do last night but that was because that's when it came out. there are better tutorials today. works with all gsm carriers. got Suncom working on it! it's an awesome phone! a little low on the earpiece volume but hopefully they could fix that in the next firmware update or something.

^^^^ I don't think it screwed anything else up. I made all those replies as fast as I could to get to the next page.

so what features work with suncom? Google maps? Visual Voicemail? Youtube? Email? Weather? How is the data plan billed with Suncom? I assume you can get an all-you-can-eat plan with them too right?

only thing that doesn't work is the visual voicemail thing. that's an at&t thing. as far as everything else, works perfect. after the unlock and putting a new sim card in youtube wasn't working but there was a really easy fix for that one. suncom has a pretty good unlimited internet access for like $5 as long as you're in their network. pretty darn good i must say. just gotta watch out if it's on somebody else's network.

^^ jury is still out

^ see i wouldn't want to have a service where i have to constantly have to watch my phone to see if i'm roaming or not, and pay extra if i am. $5 does sound good tho...but $20 (for at&t unlimited data) isn't that bad.

so is there any way i can load custom applications/games/ringtones on to my iPhone without voiding my warranty? I'm assuming not...

you can load programs onto it and it won't have anything to do with your warranty. Best case, you can just uninstall the programs, worst case, just do a phone restore.

what kind of email setup is everyone using? I use gmail as my primary email, but it doesn't function all that well. Any chance of Gmail providing IMAP soon?

I have no problems with gmail...not sure what kind of problems you guys are experiencing though.

The only thing odd about gmail is that whenever I send an email out from either outlook or my phone, i always get it sent to my inbox as well. Not right away like the sent folder but as though i CC'd myself. thought that was odd.

I'm guessing thats not the iPhone but due to the way Gmail stores messages in a conversation format rather then folders etc....(sent received outbox)

Oh I also made my first ringtone today. Pretty sweet. I like the way they set it up to select which segment you want as the ringtone.

I dunno, I've only used gmail on it. Go to settings, mail, and at the very bottom under "sending" there's an option for "always bcc myself"

analysis on why paying extra for paying extra for ringtones is bullshit
http://daringfireball.net/2007/09/the_ringtones_racket
think of this - if you own a song on a CD and you want to use it as a ringtone, you have to pay for the song 3 times.
Once on CD
Twice to buy the normal song on iTunes
Three times to turn the normal iTunes song into a ringtone

here's some ways to get around it

You honestly needed analysis on why paying for ringtones is bullshit?

Really?

^^ because using iTunes (no hacks or 3rd parties), you can only create ringtones out of songs that you've previously bought though the iTunes Store

^ I don't need it. but apparently some people are buying into the bullshit of buying ringtones, so yeah, some people need an analysis. And people need to be aware that there is no copyright terms or any other bullshit that the music labels will feed you about why you can't use normal songs as ringtones.

Dude, there's got to be several thousands of words on that page, when the whole thing can be summed up by two points:

1) You can add your own ringtone, for free, to virtually every other new phone on the market today.
2) You're paying for the privilege to use something you already own.

3) Every other carrier charges more than double what Apple is for ringtones, and thousands of suckers buy them every day

Except that Apple isn't a carrier. Apple is saying that, outside of third party applications, you cannot put your ringtone on our phone without paying us.

I don't know another manufacturer that subscribes to this thinking.

You can put your own ringtones on the iphone.

Might want to check out motorola. MPT costs a not insignificant amount of money, to provide what is arguably basic data functionality with the phone.

Just got my iPhone swaped out in store. +1 for warranty service. I was told by another Apple store employee, one I gather was lazy as fuck...that you have to call apple and send in the phone...apparently not.

i'm having trouble syncing up my iphone and itunes. i have tried checking the songs, and then clicking sync, no success. i have tried dragging songs to the iphone in the left hand column, and that didn't work either.

anyone have any clue?

yes, click on the iPhone in itunes which brings up the sync menu. Click the music tab and either select all songs or select the playlists you want synced.... then click apply and wait until its done syncing.

its not like the older ipods where you drag and drop.
