2 lbs a week for 6 months = 50 lbs.

I'd say that's realistic if you are willing to work hard at it

Well I'd be joining a gym, cutting out soda, no more fast food, and eating healthier foods. I don't really know how much to lose but I know what I want to look like, I've gained a lot of muscle in my legs so whatever but yeah much slimmer.

2lbs a week is very possible. especially at first, but you'll have to work more and more every week to keep that up. I'd shoot for 30lbs, and just hope for 50. Thats 5lbs a month, or 17,500 extra calories you will need to burn, which is quite the goal within itself.

i would suggest, drinking lots of caffiene, start smoking, and stop eating in general. I mean a little bit every now an then. But for the most part just drink/smoke your meals. And try to drink insures and stuff like that so you dont die.

I did that for a few moths (not purposely) but i lost about 30 lbs

I don't think you have 50 pounds to lose.

You bragged about how you were curvy and you were never gonna be thin, but you'd definitely be thin if you lost 50 pounds. What are you? 5'6", 160? 180?

Well work is manual labor. Constant movement, lifting, pulling, dragging, cleaning... Then three days at the gym since I work 4 10 hour days that aren't over til 8:30pm.

I plan on doing aerobic type classes since the last time I did those I seemed to lose the most weight and stay motivated/willing to go.

5'8" and chubby.

2lbs a week is very plausible, but that involves a 1000 calorie a day deficit. you need to be burning off 1000 calories more each day than you take in, and the only way you're going to do that in a healthy manner is by counting your calories AND doing cardio 5-7 times a week.

set your goals in stages. if you shoot for 50lbs as your first milestone, you're going to get discouraged. set your first milestone as losing 15lbs by the end of February. if you manage to lose 15lbs earlier than that, it will make you feel better about your endeavor and encourage you to set your next milestone. Setting distant goals makes it easy to lose focus of the progress you have made and where you're trying to get to.

in all seriousness I know several people who have recently/are doing weight watchers online. Most of them have lost 2-3 pounds a week on average, and it really works.

Basically you still eat what you want.. but it helps you to cut back some and stop eating when you're full, choose smarter snacks, etc etc

Are aerobic type exercises considered cardio as well? Running on a tredmill doesn't keep me motivated to go on, joining a class and "dancing" to music while I sweat my ass off is fun and something I can do everyday.

Working out three times a week gonna help? ha. Unfortunately my schedule is full on Friday through Monday. Like I said I don't know how much weight I need to lose, I just put that in there mathematically but I'll know when I'm there from what I see in the mirror.

yes. just follow the adage "if it feels easy, then you're not working hard enough". you should feel tired after your aerobic class.

as far as 3 days a week, that's a lot better than nothing. you're just going to have to make a concious effort to adjust your diet a lot more on the days you don't work out.

I doubt you really want to lose 50lbs. think about how big 50lbs of ground beef would look, and imagine that displacement on your body. it's a lot more than you might think.

[Edited on January 11, 2007 at 1:13 PM. Reason : ^pretty sure that's a female chart]

I've lost about 5 lbs since January 1st.
My trick is twofold:
1) Not eating a lot
2) Running 30 miles a week

Sadly I don't like to run, it hurts my ankles, my knees, and it's not enjoyable, I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything when I run. Doing a class, that's fun, that movement that's changing and interesting, it's keeping my heart rate up but also keeping me distracted.

I applied for a 10 free pass at this gym, they're gonna contact me. Is it costly to get a personal trainer, is it worth it?

Just don't drink, eat fast food, eat past 8PM, and eat out at all. That's an easy 5-10lbs by July right there.

its definately possible, just not for you

no offense, but you're up here every month making some sort of diet plan thread. my guess is that nothing's happened

you should start with an achievable goal that will encourage you to continue to larger goals

try say 5 lbs for one month, achieve that and continue to a bigger goal

Dropping soda caused me to lose the most weight I've ever lost during one of my "yay lose wieght" phases. I think I'll be able to do it but right now I'm all "ugh getting my shit together to go out in the cold to sweat my ass off sounds so unappealing" but once I get there it'll be motivating.

I have a hard time seeing you reach this goal if you're only working out 3 times a week. If you really want to lose it I think you'll have to go to the gym the days you work as well.

Sweating doesn't really equate with losing weight like you might think, especially in the winter, so get that mentality out of your head.

Well the gym I'm looking at is open 24/7 which I didn't realize they do that. I could go use the pool or whatever after work, they just don't offer any classes after 8pm. I do talk about losing weight a lot because I do want to rid of this nastinessbut it's like "the mind is willing but the body is weak and spongy" or whatever that qoute is. I have a coworker who is interested in joining with me so that will help. That and eating healthy for the rest of your life is hard when you've lost the weight but think it's ok to have one cheeseburger, then you slip into fatty mode again.

I gotta make the lifestyle change, I just don't know what it's gonna take for me to finally be enough is enough.

raising your metabolism is the key. That way, you're burning more calories even while you sleep.

I figure exercising will help raise my metabolism to a higher resting point so I do burn while I sit still or work or whenever.

you can also eat foods that raise your metabolism, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast, and eat smaller meals more frequently. Oh, and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and no drinks with refined sugar, or refined sugar at all for that matter.
