Well, tailgating and other gameday policies are being re-evaluated but I doubt much will come out of it.

Clemson is tightening up on their tailgating as well. BTW, Clemson's tailgate scene is the best I have ever seen (NCSU, GT, FSU, Wake, UNC, Duke and UVA). I imagine the tailgating in the SEC can put Clemson to shame, but in the ACC... definitely worth heading down there and checkin out.
I would imagine the 4hr rule will be lifted, but other policies will be kept. 2/12/2007 1:02:18 PM |

Posted: Today at 6:32 a.m. Updated: 3 minutes ago Raleigh — Wolfpack fans would have an extra two hours to party before football games, under a proposal made Tuesday by a panel studying tailgating rules.
Members of the North Carolina State University Football Task Force reviewed regulations implemented in the past two years after two fans were shot and killed during a parking-lot fight before a football game.
Parking lots now open four hours before kickoff instead of the night before, but the panel recommended extending that to six hours.
Rules outlawing beer kegs, establishing noise levels for music and requiring picture IDs weren't changed by the committee.
The recommendations must be approved by N.C. State Chancellor James Oblinger before taking effect." |

In 6hrs you can cook a small pig. But most of the people I know who used to cook pigs had to start them earlier than when they showed up. You can cut the bull shit that yall want 6 hours. You only want 6 hrs if the game is at 3pm. if we have a normal noon time game I doubt I would see that many fans at 6am rolling in the parking lot drinking beer and cooking a pig. I can remember showing up at 4am to cook a pig for a noon game mayn time. The average crowed stareted showing up around 8ish. What yall need to be worrying about is the new seat belt law that will not allow people to cram 15 people into a SUV any more. 2/14/2007 8:23:46 AM |

Warning: words
I posted the belw quote on Statefans in their same thread. THis is mainly a ? for other young alumni. Do you feel the same as I do? Would you give more, or for those that give nothing, would you give anything if the administration made you feel more appreciated for the gift? I am wondering from conversations with my fellow recent grads that future doners are being alienated wiht no thought to just how much $ the university could be losing.
Thoughts?
Quote : | "The thing that bothers me the most about this whole thing is the ignorance, or worse, willful disregard of what brought about these restrictions in the first place.
Tailgating in the Fairgrounds lot before the shooting:
-No parking pass required
-Large groups of all kinds setting up areas and blocking off parking, saving spaces for people to come and go up to 30 minutes before kickoff
-People leaving and reentering the lot multiple times
-Limited police presence in the lot itself, just on the street directing traffic
-All kinds of people who had no ticket to the game, and no intention of even going to the game; they're there for the party
Changes to the lot after the shooting:
-Parking pass required, resulting in Finite number of cars in the lot No leaving and reentering If people are there for tailgating only, the must at least come with someone who has a ticket, and thus a parking pass
-Increased police presence in the lot itself
-4 hour tailgating restriction
The things that caused the problems in that lot were not solved by the four hour rule. Is there anyone here who honestly thinks that with the four hour rule only, the Fairgrounds lot would not have the same problems? Honestly? What's worse is the administration of this rule to the "donor lots" as well as the problem lot.
This is what agrivates me so. How anyone can examine this situation and not realize this is beyond me. I think those that want to enforce the 4 hour rule just have an agenda of forcing their ideas of "proper tailgating" on others and limiting people's activities to those that they feel are appropriate.
Do they realize just how pissed they get some of the young alumni when they do stuff like this. I got news for some of the older doners out there. You won't live forever. Who's going to support this great university when you're gone? We have so many young grads out there like myself and my wife (we have so many friends that we love from State) who are making money and could give, and if we got in the habit now, we would give more as we get older. The common thread that I hear as well as say myself is, "Why give money to an organization that doesn't listen to a word we say?" and "We're alumni now, I'll be ******! if I'm going to give money to State when Stafford, the Provost in charge of STUDENT affairs, is allowed to screw with us in return." I give to the general funds of my high school, Boy Scouts, and any organization that I feel helped make me the man I am today. In return they listen when I write or call, and I get to participate in events without being treated like I'm still a student or a participant in those programs.
BTW, I do tell NCSU why I don't give more than the minimum and none to the general fund. I like the idea of giving $4 for 4 hours, $6 for six, though. I think I'm going to do that. I'm going to share that idea if you don't mind, Smiley.
Sorry for all the words. I think some here don't realize the real dollar consequences in the future of some of the administration's actions over the last five years, though. It may help to read it. Sorry for the spelling, too.

Swedish -
They know. At least from me.
I'll share a little. I sent my donations in with explanation of why dollars went down. No response. Called my alumni assoc. rep, was told that they're sorry I decreased my donation, but policy isn't changing. Dug deeper with the rep and sent her, and the head of alum assoc. copies of my giving statements for my highschool and Boy Scouts. That got a response. It made me sick though, b/c I got the same, I mean identical, form letter from three people at the university that they had prepared. I got several phone calls, so I know they got my message.
I talked to a girl my wife graduated with that now orks in the alumni assoc. and is a good friend. It's second hand heard it from a friend, so take it with a grain of salt. She said that after the shooting, the older, more established donors were worried about the public image of the university and wanted a PR crackdown. Since they have the dollars now, they get the say. They knew they were pissing off a lot of people, but it was a right now $ decision.
My point to the Wolfpack Club, Alumni Assoc, etc is that they are losing millions by not cultivating our young alums. NCSU has more grads out there making more $ than ever, and our salaries are only going to get bigger. It's not the $5000 today, it's the $50,000 thirty years from now. Multiply that by the number of grads with marketable, in-demand skills that State puts out and the potential is amazing.
Thinking only about today's $ is a recipe for failure.
People in the right places have heard, they just haven't grown the balls to do anything about it. 2/15/2007 10:17:35 AM |

Thats the thing it wasn't until this year that we have gotten alot of games that weren't noon time. We usually had a few games that might be a 3:00 and then one thrusday night game. Its really sad though. What yall don't understand about money is this if they keep the rules then they keep money. When you have one or two alumni throwing down 100 million dollars your 1,000 buck donation is not going to be missed. If you give a couple million then they will listen to you. 2/16/2007 10:06:56 AM |

The restrictions were not brought on to stop shootings. They were brought to crack down on students. The douchebags on statefans HATE walking through the fairgrounds parking lot and seeing students have a good time.
For some reason, they expect college student fun to be family-friendly fun. It's not and will never be. So, they don't give a shit about the crackdown. The hypocrites did the same fucking shit when they were in college. 4/21/2007 9:00:39 PM |

^ to what do you refer to on statefans about them wanting it to be curtailed? I've heard the PG rating stuff but I don't see how that ties into a time limit. If anything the arguement could be made that the students are still going to do what students do best.... (have a great time) and the time limits just encourages people to drink more faster rather than space it out over an entire afternoon or morning.
I used to love cooking a pig and drinking from a keg, plenty of other schools have great tailgaiting traditions, it'd be nice to cultivate that and not supress it like it is now. 4/22/2007 1:58:10 AM |

Yeah all those events were fun but they got out of hand. The main problem is underage drinking. That is why i believe the new restrictions are being brought down. Long gone are the days of going to fair grounds throwing a football around cooking and listening to music. Last year I saw many people playing beer pong at a tailgate. Thats just stupid to play drinking games before going to a football game. in 4 years as a undergrad I new saw one ALE cop during a tailgate. I went to every home game and usually drank off of a keg with no problems. I don't like the new restrictions but if your arguements for longer tailgatting is for drinking more beer I don't think the rules will change. 4/22/2007 12:32:51 PM |
