man, i never noticed this thread earlier. i have a boner for a 'Stream.
think it would be ok in the intracoastal, or parts of the Pamlico sound (like the fingers up by new bern, etc)?
are they safe for the average boater? i don't want it pulling any crazy blowover shit or going out of control at high speed.
what are some other similar boats? I think Allison makes something similar...I'm sure others do too, but I don't really know much about them. 9/23/2007 9:51:44 PM |

well seeing as my dad owned a boat shop for many years, so i have been on a few like the one pictured. seeing as how the motor weighs so much and the boat is short and light. the back of the boat when sitting is almost level with the water. dont beileve me. fucking ride in one in the sound you have to run them ashore on a busy day, cause it WILL take on water 9/23/2007 10:35:13 PM |

On the ICW? I wouldn't. The wake from most of the fucktards on big boats would likely swamp you instantly.
Pamlico Sound? Yeah, maybe on a perfect flat day. You'd have to pick your days for sure. I've had numerous near death experiences in that area on ocean-going vessels. Pamlico Sound is no place to fuck around.
New Bern? You'd still have to pick yer days.
That little boat just isn't worth a damn for anything but small protected lakes.

pamlico sound gets really choppy when theres any wind blowing and because the water is so shallow alot of them break somewhat. you need a boat that can handle the chop, something more than 17 feet long is best 9/24/2007 10:32:13 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52839 Posts user info edit post |
oh, i know there'd be choppy days...i just wonder if the calm days would be so few and far between that it wouldn't be worthwhile.
i'd like to be able to put the boat in at new bern or morehead city and go screaming down to atlantic beach, or beaufort (NC), or maybe even Topsail, etc. i know there would be days too rough to do it, but would it be worth having? 9/26/2007 4:32:09 PM |
travis3ncsu All American 1686 Posts user info edit post |
you wont be doing any screaming in any boat from morehead city to beaufort or atlantic beach. for one its like 500 yds and two its a no wake zone pretty much the whole way(MHC - Beaufort) 9/26/2007 4:45:13 PM |
BigBlueRam All American 16852 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, that would be an absolutely useless place to have that boat. the only place i would even think about putting it in salt water in nc would be the intercoastal from southport to calabash. it's pretty calm since it runs roughly east-west on that stretch, but you'd still have to watch for the wakes of some of the bigger boats. 9/26/2007 4:51:40 PM |

if i remember correctly you will be fine from salterpath to swansboro though right. i always see people flyin through and skin there(bouge sound) 9/26/2007 4:51:47 PM |

well shit, i've been psyching myself up for a few weeks about getting something like this when I come back to NC
so i guess an RXP, built GP1200/1300, or Ultra 150 is gonna be the ticket for cruising the intracoastal at a spirited pace? 9/26/2007 4:54:54 PM |
BigBlueRam All American 16852 Posts user info edit post |
pretty much, unless you've got the $texas to drop on an offshore type boat. my gp1200 has held up well to about 8 years of salt water flogging. a lot of that spent flying a few feet over the water.
don't even look at sea doos for heavy rough/salt water use. the hulls just don't do well in it. they're awesome lake skis. yamaha is hands down the best hull for chop, followed by kawasaki.

Yo Duke. Definitely forget about the little lake boat if that's what you're wanting to do. Those ski's are a good option if you're looking for speed, but you might want to look into something like a 21-ish Donzi or the likes. You could zip around a LOT more places in something like that, and be able to haul a few more people/whores/coolers with you.

^^ i'm not opposed to having a ski and a boat
^^^ yeah, but if i can't have (well, you know what i mean) what I really want, I'll just get something inexpensive, modest, and a little more utilitarian (hauling friends, my daughter, SCUBA gear, etc). I'll probably just spend a few thousand and get something basic (the only real performance requirement would be it being strong enough to pull up a slalom waterskiier).
i'll save the high performance for the jet ski if there's nowhere down there suitable for a go-fast lake boat.

^^^ That looks like a boat that I got pulled tubing behind one time when I was a kid. That asshole hit 80 and slung us; throwing a bunch of 12-14 year old kids across the water at breakneck speeds. I'll have to ask what kind of boat it was the next time I see the owner. 9/21/2008 5:46:11 PM |
