I just wanted to let job seekers out there know not to rule out Craig's List for employment. After working with numerous staffing agencies (Kelly, Manpower, etc) and looking at NC state govt. employment, universities, career fairs, monster, and careerbuilder, it was ultimately CL that came through with the job I was looking for at the salary I was looking for.

To be honest I don't even know where I heard to check CL for jobs, it certainly wasn't from career services or anything like that, just heard about it randomly one day. Anyone else have any success (or failure) with CL?

I'm not sure if it's like this on the Raleigh CL, but in DC, they've started charging for posting in the jobs section. Now they're much more reliable.

Seattle's CL is huge. and they also charge employer's to post their jobs. i got a decent engineering job offer from craigslist a while back. I'm not working there, but it was legitimate.

I dont know about Raleigh/Charlotte CL. it may not be as developed.

I got a job in NYC off of CL - I'd suggest it.

Note: didn't take it for personal reasons - but it was a legit offer. Door is "still open" as the MD has told me to make them my first contact if/when I decide to move.

I'd suggest it for larger cities.

I found my original employment as a part-time live out nanny through Craigslist. I've also found an assortment of work as a babysitter and tutor through the site. I've actually collected enough clients and regular work that I have had to set myself up as a small business for tax and record purposes.

And you can actually find legit nanny work through Craigslist with families that pay high wages, provide health insurance, etc. There are a lot of people looking for cheap babysitters but there is a strong percentage of people out there looking for professional child care workers.
