That video right there is exactly why people who have been State fans for longer than 2-8 years LOATHE Herb Sendek.

Believe it or not, NC State used to get hyped up for State/UNC games.

Inferior players like Lakista McCuller, Bryant Feggins (on one leg at that point in his career), Ishua Benjamin, etc used to COMPETE against and sometimes beat future NBA stars like Stackhouse, Wallace, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison.

If you saw the CC Harrison game, you haven't forgotten it.


Under Herb we had SUPERIOR teams get absolutely dismantled out there. Last year we didn't even COMPETE. Losing is one thing. Having a team that is too scared to give it their best effort is another.

Right now we have dick for talent and theres no way we can compete with UNC. But at least Sidney Lowe has not proven that he can't get it done yet. Under Herb we knew we never had a chance.

I could just say one word...Les Robinson Invitational...and that would be all I need to combat that post.

But I'll go on a little further.

I was a young kid growing up a state fan during the Les years. And other than his '90 tourney team with Fire/Ice...getting to the 2nd round with Jimmy V's players...he was probably one of the worst coaches in ACC history. He recruited a bunch of big guards and shitty big men (exceptions of course). Yeah...we would beat UNC an unusual amount of times for the amount of talent they had on their team...but it wasn't worth it to have the kind of teams we had. Les barely ran an offensive system...so we would basically have a guard or two get hot...and it would almost always happen against UNC...and we would let that guy carry us to a win.

And we still always got hyped up for the UNC game...even during the Herb years. I just think playing in the RBC center changes a lot of the perception of the hype surrounding those games.

And I hate losing to UNC just as much as anyone...but I sure as fuck wouldn't trade the NCAA tourney years and finishing in the top 1/3 of the ACC for the LRI years.

And BTW...we just got dismantled by a shitty Duke team. Sidney is 0-1 in the "big rivarly" games right now.

The point is with Herb at the helm we never really had a chance to beat UNC (except the year they absolutely sucked dick).

This generation of State fans has this "well we arent supposed to beat UNC" attitude and its sickening.

No, we are not supposed to be better than UNC every year. But when we ARE better (see 4-5 of the last 6 seasons) we should be able to win a proportionate amount of those games.

If we could beat UNC TWICE when they were #1 in the nation (with many close loses in between) then there is no reason to get our ass kicked year in & year out when we have the better team.
