im trying to connect my wii but i keep getting an error for unable to connect to server. i have a netgear cg814wg. nintendo says it may be a problem with the SPI firewall, but I cant figure out how to disable that on this router. also I found a list of ports to forward but I'm not sure if i have them setup correctly. what IP do I put when setting up the forwarding? the router IP? the IP for the wii? because i dont know what that is.

i know its not a problem with the wii because i can connect to other networks, just not mine


and id just keep using the other network, but i need to get onto my network so i can use media center x and stream media to the wii. just converting an video to mjpeg is way to big to put on a sdcard

For port forwarding, you want to use the local IP address of the Wii. Somewhere in the router configuration pages there should be an 'Attached Devices' that will tell you what devices are connected, plus their IP and MAC addresses.

Make sure your security settings match on the Wii and the router.

For SPI, look for 'Stateful Packet Inspection' or 'Dynamic Packet Filtering'.

i cant connect the wii, so how do i find out the local address? i know its mac address

and i have nothing that mentions any kind of packet filtering. it looks like this is third party firmware, maybe i need to call twc and get a different brand of modem.

I looked at Netgear's website--the CG814WG is intended to be sold to cable companies who, in turn, are expected to put their own firmware on it. It may be difficult to find specific help here, unless someone has that particular router from the cable company and can look at the configuration pages and walk you through it.

So, my suggestions would be (depending upon your level of expertise):

1) Browse through the router's configuration pages and see if you can get the Wii to connect. Look for MAC filtering. If DHCP is turned off, try configuring the Wii with a static IP address (you may want to try assigning a static IP even if DHCP is on). Verify security settings on both the Wii and the router.

2) Call the cable company, since they installed and configured your network. Tell them you'd like to connect your Wii to your wireless network.

so i just need the wii to be on a local adress. if i cant get this stupid modem to work i can just plug a cheap wireless router into one of the ports and go that route right? or can you not chain routers like that?

this may have been addressed above, but do you have any sort of security encryption enabled on the router? WEP, WPA, etc.?

when i first tried to connect my Wii to the Internets, I had similar problems. I temporarily disabled WPA, then was able to connect w/o any problems.

i use WEP encryption, but had the same problem when i disabled it. i can get onto another unsecured network so im pretty sure the problem is not with my wii.

Have you checked MAC filtering?

Is this a router that you got from the cable company? If so, just call them up and ask for help. They can probably do whatever they need to remotely.
