Anybody followed this? Just recently discovered the website and it looks fucking awesome.
Basically for anybody who hasn't heard, its an MMORPG set in the Age of Sail. You can be a Naval officer, merchant, adventurer, or pirate and 4 different nationalities. This shit has TONS of ships and looks like it could be hella cool. I've always been interested in the Age of Sails, so I can't wait for this shit to come out. You can go to the website and apply for the beta test.

yeah that looks pretty awesome
for me it's one of those 'how did nobody come up with that idea before now' kinds of deals when you look at it... seems like many pirates on an open sea + MMORPG = winner 1/22/2007 9:21:33 AM |

I love the aspect where you can actually research and design your own ships and the team will approve/modify/deny your entry. If they like it, then it becomes available ingame. 1/22/2007 9:27:18 AM |

I like the fact you can do missions and shit to get a port/cities in contention, and at that point it becomes a PvP area as people battle for control of it. Then eventually the territory is decided by a large fleet action. Whoever wins, takes over the port. How awesome would that be to get your guild into a pirate fleet and takeover ports like Port Royale for yourself? It even says that this affects the economy by allowing more trade with the owner and causes taxes to go up on the losing nationality. Ultimately you can win the server by taking over a certain percentage of all ports. At that point, the ports are realigned to their original state (much like how it happened back then, when a country won, if often times returned control of many of the ports to the original owner) and the process is set back in motion. 1/22/2007 1:05:07 PM |

The only bad thing is that it's going to be
80% pirates 10% merchant 5% officer 5% adventurer 1/22/2007 1:23:47 PM |

I am going to be in the officer course myself, or maybe adventurer. I am actually most uninterested in the pirate course myself. I bet you would be surprised how many of the more hardcore period guys that play this game are going to do naval officer and merchant/adventurer.
I am also curious if the game also has lots of NPC merchant ships, naval warships, etc. to battle against if people aren't around. 1/22/2007 1:33:10 PM |

I signed up for the Beta, and said that I was most interested in adventurer.
But it was mostly because I knew Pirate would be the most requested by far, and I figured adventurer would be more likely to get me an invite. 1/22/2007 1:35:33 PM |
