I'm just wondering who "our boy" is gonna be under O'Brien this coming year. I saw Matt Simms at the Duke game along with Chris Simms being coaxed by Red Tom. I'm guessing he has interest in NCSU now that O'Brien is here?

Anybody got info regarding Matt Simms' recruitment? How does he compare to Burke/Beck/Wilson?
Have we any other new QB interests other than Matt Simms? Who is lookin like the starter for '07?

Word. thanks, pack1100. Chris Simms certainly was impressive at times and I would hope maybe we can climb the ladder in the eyes of his little bro. Not to mention famous dad & bro would get us good pub.

And yeah the original thread for Fball recruitment seemed almost dead and certainly not QB focused. I woudnt mind hearing opinions of our QB status or if anyone has heard anything. Geeza.

hey anything to get the kid to commit. We have a QB comming this year that is a double threat QB. He isn't greta but anything is better than stone. Simms is considered a Pro style QB he will be in the 2008 class however he will be a senior next year.

Oh, OK. I thought he was older than that. So it looks like Red Tom has time to show him that he can turn our football program around and maybe lure him to the fold.

And the double threat guy must be D. Wilson, though I thought I read somewhere that he was recently downgraded for some reason by scouts. I wonder if TOB would play a double threat QB? He seems like the kinda coach that would want a more traditional pocket passer to me....

^ Looks like the L'ville press is watching him closely. That article about him decommitting and his denial of decommitment was from jan 8th. And he ends up with TOB at the game here in Raleigh just yesterday... interesting...

Don't forget Harrison Beck (Nebrask transfer) and Justin Burke. One of them will more than likely be the 2007.

It is very possible that TOB doesent mesh with Burke (Trestman's prodigy), Wilson (another Mike Vick wannabe), or Beck (who knows?).

If Matt Simms really is CO 2007 then I could easily see TOB offering him the true freshman start much like our last QB who started right out of highschool.....

In fact both of them had football dads, were highly touted for leadership abilities, and rated low for accuracy/consistency....

I seem to recall that TOB had recruited Burke at BC. Could be wrong, though.

I could have sworn I saw TOB in section 110 at the bball game with some recruits. Can anyone verify my bad eyes?

simms might be a good one, might not/

^^^^ If there is a previous link between Burke and TOB, then I will be very happy.

I can only imagine the strain our poor returning football players are going through after Amato's slackass has been replaced by Drill Instructor Tom "The Red" O'Brien.... They probably might even have to behave ! (and not get so many false starts and aggressive penalties!)

But any previous realtionship with TOB will be a plus when competing for a starter role...

If TOB cant "mesh" with one of either Burke, Beck, or Wilson, then we have a huge fucking problem. 2 of 3 were HIGHLY recruited out of high school, and the other one is 2 inches too short for bigger schools to consider him.

That, combined with the fact that he played in a shitty conference, but its not like he was racking up yardage by running through arm tackles. Usually bad receivers go along with bad football conferences, yet he threw for a fuckload of yards too, and he played a good game in a loss against one of the best teams in the state if I'm not mistaken. They say he's got all the physical tools except height, and he's a smart quarterback. I'll take him

Picked that up within the past few months and have heard it being said. The guy usually has a red, almost blushingly red, facial hue. I like it. Better bright red face than bright red shoes. I think "red tom" almost has an imposing ring to it also.

Uhm... lemme see.... mobile passer, likes to scramble, has great footwork... very strong arm, likes to throw bullet passes... I mean, he's black.... should I have said Donovan McNabb instead?

But, he's only a 2star QB now for reasons stated above. Though I didnt know he also played baseball....

Bullet passes are what Vick throws that his receivers cant catch. If this guy is completing passes to high schoolers, he's not throwing bullets.

Simms played against some really, really good competition in high school.. he is the real deal. Rumor is that his Dad wants him to honor his commitment to Louisville because he likes Kragthorpe but I'm not sure he wants to sit behind one more year of Brohm plus one year of Cantwell (which really gives him no shot even if there was a competition until his third year) before getting his shot.. we'll see. I'd take him here. I think he'll be far better than what Beck would be and would fight with Burke for the starting job..

the most popular guy on the team - the redshirted QB

the mike vick comparison would obviously be one given to a runner first-passing second QB. vick has terrible footwork, is laughably inaccurate and dumber than rock.

wilson is a thrower first, has the mechanics of a pro (which is why we offered him on the spot) and is very intelligent. he is FAR from a "mike vick wannabe" - so again, your comparison is dumb

this kid is a damn good QB. evidently, everyone who saw him was blown away.

^ sure, all you had to say was that a McNabb comparision would have been more accurate in your opinion.... Im guessing neither one of us has actually seen the kid play, just heard things....

But yeah I agree that if we play Burke/Beck and they arent getting it done then there will be alotta people who would want to see Wilson as a mobile passer to shake things up (i.e. the Greco lovers of last year). I think its safe to assume that Wilson throws a better ball than Greco did, which is why we never saw Greco outside of the Red/White games....

^^ I also think Burke gets the nod because of his smarts and I can see him being the TOB fav. I seem to recall hearing that Beck isnt too sharp, maybe has to do with him being a drunken Saucer hound? Either way hes gotta have more brains than Marcus Stone did....

my point is if you are expecting wilson to have a huge impact on any college football game he plays in, you will be extremely disappointed.

people think OMFG A BLACK QB HE MUST BE A RUNNER!!!!!11

his running impact will probably be much like stone's.

Yet he was one of the best college QBs I've ever seen. He was Vince Young as a JR, only better and this was when he was only a Frosh.

this is true. his performance against FSU in the national title game was one of the greatest ive ever seen.

however, after watching Vince Young beat USC, i told my friend that Vince is everything mike vick wishes he was. throws a much better, more accurate pass. very little wasted motion in everything that he does. you will notice how much 'dancing' vick does with both throwing and running.

Young is more polished, I agree. But that hasn't translated into more accurate. A lot of people thought Vick would mature into a better passer, which hasn't happened. I'm not totally convinced Young will either since he put up Vick-like numbers this year and by all accounts, isn't too intelligent himself.

In everything I've read about Wilson, there is not one mention of him being compared to Mike Vick. People that are compared to Vick are runningbacks with good arms. THis guy is mentioned as a very mobile quarterback, not a runner.

If that were true, then the battle for the helm would be:

1)Simms 2)Burke 3)Beck 4)Wilson 5)Evans? 6)Other?
Cause you know if the son of Simms comes here, he will get the nod and not the bench.
I think Burke as a #2 is pretty solid , but 3-4-5?-6? ~ who the hell knows....

WOW.
