I have a 97 Camaro SS and I need new tires. My budget is $500 for 4 tires. I was hoping you could suggest what I should get and where around the Raleigh area I should get them. Thanks

Im not an expert so no i do not realize the exact science to it. My first set of tires were BF Goodrich Comp TAs Zr rated that were 17s and i believe 9 inches wide which just barely rubbed the wheel well if you turned the steering wheel all the way. Right now i have some types of eagles I believe that were recommended by a salesman since the comp TAs went out of production and they were cheaper. I can go a little over 500 if I have to but prefer to come in under it.

There is no way you will find a better tire than the Kumho MX for ~500

Jimmie you freakin idiot. At least know the tire size.

ITS WRITTEN ON THE SIDEWALL OF YOUR TIRE. And you're gonna be hard pressed to find a set for less than $500. And you can get 16" tires if you want, but they won't fit on your 17" wheels, LOL.

No only 1 set, in my stupidity i didnt consider the fact that I would need new rims for 16s. My bad so only 17s.

the cheapest would be some used tires.

a lot of shops would have them.

you can get them for probably $30 a pop

I cant recall the site but someone on here suggested it to me.. i got 4 toyo proxes 4s for like $69 a wheel... that would easily fit the bill... good all season tire with a good tread pattern. Maybe not the kinda tire you want but its a good daily driver.

I heard Discount Tire matches tirerack and does free shipping. They seem pretty cool. They plugged a hole in my tire for free when merchant's et al. want $20.

They are 275/40/17. Those are going to have to be some pretty cheap tires to meet your budget.

Yeah i realized that so I asked my parents to chip in and my new budget is 650. I think I am going to go with the Kumho ECSTA ASX from Tire rack for 107 a piece. I'm going to order them Monday. If you have any thoughts on better tires for 275/40/17s let me know before then.

I had Ecsta ASX's on my old Mark VIII; good tires. However, for a Camaro SS you might want something a little more aggressive, just IMO...I'd try to get a set of the MX's unless you need them right-freaking-now.

I'll also say that I've got BFGoodrich gForce T/A KDWs on my Marauder and I've been impressed with them. Might be worth taking a look at....

you could get some nittos or yokohamas for way under what tehy want for those kumhos.

i priced out some for my lude at 215/45r17 at 430-470 a set installed.

you wont get em much cheaper thatn that unless your tires are taller. yo can get touring 215/60r17 cheaper.

a year ago i got a set of kumhos for 300 installed but i think it was a discontinued model (712) and they gave me a good discount.

I would say get oversized by a bit, I like the added wheel protection it provides and it gives you a wider profile for traction/handling

so 215/50 or something, go to discount tire's website and see what oversized (if any) is offered for your vehicle

as for brand I like the bridgstone potenza pole postion RE960 tires , but really comes down to what you are willing to spend and if you want directional or symmetric profile tires, summer or AS?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE960AS+Pole+Position

less than $800 (so nothing super expensive, preffereably in the $600 range)

directional (awd so other than turning / brake wear)

It's for driving around NC mostly, so not in the wet all that much... so all seasons (more towards dry)
