there are lots of people on here that would do something like that. however, it's gotta be worth their while. some people will do it for cash, others for beer or food or somethin. u should get a good amount of replies though. 1/25/2007 12:11:53 PM |

this person would expect to pay cash. i'm not sure what the going rate is for a college student doing something like this, i would guess 20-30/hr for a few hours of work? 1/25/2007 12:17:08 PM |

plenty of us would be able to do it for you. 20/30 an hour doesn't seem too unreasonable. You might want to work out a provision if it goes too long though. Between waiting for virus scans to run, updates to install, and possibly needing to repair the windows install it could run from 2 to 6 hours. Granted, a lot of that time will involve whoever you hire sitting there and waiting for the computer to finish a task; it's still time you have to and should compensate them for.
If they end up being there for 7 hours because the windows install is so corrupted/broken because of viruses and spyware, that's 140-210 bucks you'd agree to pay them. I'd suggest offering 30 an hour OR a maximum of... 100-120 or so? I mean 100 under the table for 6-7 hours is still good, and it keeps you from having to shell out 200 bucks or so.
You also might want to come to an agreement about whether or not you'd expect them to do a reformat/reinstall of windows if that turns out to be needed. You might just want to do that yourself (or your friend) since it's fairly simple and involves so much time just waiting, then have them come back and do all the security stuff later. 1/25/2007 1:19:46 PM |

You 2 would have a lot of negotating to do.
I live in Apex and wouldn't mind helping out But I am trying to get my house ready to sell and won't have the time for at least 2 weeks.
The virus/spyware is something your friend can do on his own. There are a few online virus/spyware sites that will do it for free. They won't find/fix everything but its a good start.
If they have specific questions on how to set up the wireless network and print server, post here and someone can answer. Or IM me, if they are fairly computer savy it shouldn't be hard to walk someone through any of this.1/25/2007 1:42:43 PM |
