Sid definitely is the reason
WRAL.com has a post-game interview w/ Gavin Grant, and he even admits to not really understanding the UNC/NCSU rivalry since "he's from New York," but he knew this game was more than "just a game" and went out and did everything to win 2/3/2007 9:51:50 PM |

i agree. i also think the same about Hansborough. i hate when people trash on him all the time. yeah the guy's a little goofy looking but he keeps his mouth shut and just plays ball with class. i admire that.
i also think sid definitely puts more passion into it that herb. kinda like chuck did. it's just inside them both.2/3/2007 10:03:57 PM |

Quote : | "I congratulate Sidney and his staff. You have to admire what they’ve done the last two games. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a team shoot 76 percent in the second half against us before. I have no answers. They had more passion for the game than we did, and I don’t understand that. I never will understand that. They dominated us.
I told Sidney how happy I am for him. I told him I was ticked off about how we played, but I didn’t say ‘ticked off.’ I’m ticked off, but I admire the way they played. I think the game they played the other night at Virginia Tech had a very big impact on how they played today.
We talk constantly about never allowing anyone to catch a length-of-the-court pass for a layup, and yet they did [Gavin Grant’s layup at the end of the first half]. I can’t explain it. We’re too fat and sassy right now. We thought we could win just by showing up, and you can’t do that. Every team in this league is good.
There is going to be adversity all the time, but you can’t just let people jump up and shoot the ball right in your face. There’s a certain amount of toughness needed to play this game. They didn’t give us the trophy last week when we beat Arizona. We went out today and got our butts kicked. " |

I hate UNC. I hate Hansbrough, hated Makthar Ndiaye, Rashad McCants I hate just about all things UNC.
I cannot bring myself to hate Roy Williams. He's the enemy, but he really is a classy guy in a win or a loss and hates State with a passion....arguably moreso than Duke.
If you listened to his presser when he was introduced as the head coach, I couldn't help but smile at his stories about NC State.
I'll never pull for him and I hope he never wins another game at UNC....but he seems to be a good man 2/4/2007 11:46:29 AM |

50% of our football team was the same way the past 7 years. They cared about FSU, not UNC... I don't really mind it. He told the truth. No one in NYC gives a shit about college sports.. it's all professional. If you grow up there you could give a fuck less about Duke-UNC or NCSU-UNC. Hodge was one of the rare kids who 'got it' from the beginning. Unless you want to shut yourself out from one of, if not, the largest hotbed of talent in America you deal with it as a program...
UNC-NCSU has NOTHING to do with the culture of the sport as a whole. I'm sure you meant the culture of the sport in the region.. The Knicks have been and will always be the culture of the sport in NYC (and maybe Syracuse to a much, much, much smaller degree in NYC).

The hate for Hansbrough isn't on the same level as a McClamps or Ndiaye. Hansbrough is a competitor, an incredible talent, and you've got to appreciate the kid's heart.
I dunno...he's kinda thier "leader"...he's an incredible player, and I think he gets away with a little too much from the refs. I just can't stand looking at him. I guess that's the reason for my hatred....nothing too serious.
He doesn't fit into the "YOU SUCK AT LIFE" category that some other hated UNC players fall into, but I'm not gonna like him.
I just included him up there becuase he's current. I wouldn't group him into any kind of category with the other 2

^^ exactly.
You have to understand the North is the exact opposite from the South.
If the Bobcats/Hornets or whoever suck its no big deal. Hell, I cant rememebr the last time someone asked me if i "saw the game" last night and was referring to a professional sport.
Up North they think college sports are cute. If its not pro then it might as well be a middle school girls game.

There is one thing you really have to learn about college sports.
90% of the elite college athletes dont give a fuck about "tradition".
They practice, lift weights, etc all with the dream in mind of playing professional sports.
There are the select few white guys who grew up wanting to be the man in college (Redick, Hurley, etc)
The rest of them want to get paid and fuck bitches.
They dont care about the opportunity to attend college classes for free. They do appreciate the free meals, the free gear, and the pussy. 2/4/2007 12:13:14 PM |

Ha. I'm really not trying to downplay the significance that Case/NCSU/ACC has had on college basketball. Hell, without them college basketball as we know it doesn't exist today. Just saying that I don't expect a kid growing up in a pro town to be up on his southern rivalries and tradition. It's unrealisti to expect that.
I'm sure I'll get flamed at for that but luckily I won't have time to read it the rest of the day.. f'ing preparation for a super bowl party.. 2/4/2007 12:15:03 PM |
