Yeah I've got an ASUS laptop and I love it, I bought it customized from http://istnc.com/ , they are some good guys out of North Carolina that will give you individual attention and at the time the deal was very good. I don't have the model you linked, I believe mine is an ASUS Z71V, but I have had no problems with it, and again, at the time I bought it a GeForce Go 6600 was pretty amazing in a laptop.
Here's a direct link to the laptop stuff: http://www.istnc.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=101

Anyone have issues with the fans turning off / stopping? Running a fan diagnostic in MyASUS starts them back up, but they seem to stop working when the computer goes to sleep. Seems like a somewhat common issue without any great fixes. 1/27/2024 5:50:30 PM |

I mean although $1100 prob can sell for $500 all that time later and still works etc. Sometimes i hear stories like went from 2010 macbook to like 2022 macbook. Thats one hell of a time to save for next device. I’ve went 7 years once, 6 years twice. Most of the time by year 5 its noticeably crappy, but tolerable.

Not a laptop, but just switched my parents from a mid-2006 iMac to a late-2023 iMac. That's 17.5 years as a serviceable machine (older than this thread). Now using 2006 model as a streaming media server for local files.
My initial unhelpful post in an Asus laptop thread was a joke, but this is a true story.] 1/30/2024 7:02:14 PM |

^ x 6 Shouldn't they go off when the computer sleeps?
I bought my kids ASUS lower-tier gaming laptop at the start of the plague and I've not been super impressed with the quality. The fans are hella loud and make noises like they struggling or just loose. There's gremlins with the included control software for things like the keyboard lights. The WiFi adaptor will just disappear from the Window device manager without waring. The battery life sucked from day one. At a kilo-buck each I was expecting at least a little better. I suppose the cost went towards the GPU and they cut corners everywhere else they could. 1/30/2024 7:39:00 PM |

The issue is the fans do not resume normal operation when the computer comes out of sleeping. You have to run the utility to get them working again. Otherwise I haven't had any issues with mine, though I don't really even game with it and got a good deal on one of the Prime days. 1/30/2024 9:16:02 PM |

Get a fan management software, there are a few popular ones you'll find with a google search. That is easier than the alternative, which is going into BIOS.
Are the fans turning on just in general for random stuff like browsing, or is it just limited to the video games? Because that also affects what I'd suggest from my experience.
And yeah, macbooks are super reliable. As long as you're not needing to do specialist type stuff, just browsing and the basics, they're a perfect "home" laptop, to be used by the kid, for storing photos, for doing whatever. We bought a macbook pro in the early 2010s, have used it extensively, and it still runs perfectly... that's right, perfectly. No complaints. No weird blue screens, no diagnostics needed. It just works.2/2/2024 11:18:08 PM |
