I had this guy for a philosophy class. My test grades were D, C, and D. Very difficult. When I went to talk to him about possibly doing some extra credit, he let me and I ended up with a B in the class. 2/12/2007 11:28:02 AM |

His test are easy assuming that you're literate and actually do the class readings. I read the required material and I got an A without having to think very hard.
As far as an instructor, he's a painfully goofy person. He's one of those people that's so socially awkward that it hurts to be in the same room with them. I found myself in his class not wanting to look at him in an effort to spare him some embarrassment from his overwhelming dorkiness. He knows his stuff and explains it decently, but you'll still glean most of the required knowledge from the assigned readings. 2/12/2007 12:38:15 PM |

just about any philosophy class is going to be very difficult if you try to get by with minimal effort. philosophy professors are generally very rigorous, and you should plan on reading all the assigned material carefully, and at least twice, if you have any hope of understanding it. its not like english/sociology/psychology/history classes where you can breeze over the material the night before and bullshit your way through a few essays.
on the other hand, if you do make the required effort to read and comprehend all the material, you're pretty much guaranteed an A. 2/12/2007 1:43:11 PM |

I really like Hambourger, and if you do the readings, participate in class, and have a general interest in the material you are going to get a good grade and learn a lot. Oh, and pop into his office at least a couple times with genuine questions about the readings and it will really help you out. 2/12/2007 6:31:39 PM |

i made a "serious" effort (aka, not just the night before) and i got an A-
but i didn't like the class overall and he often couldn't stay on his own topics. i was especially disappointed in how he was automatically defending one side of any arguement, and pretty much refused to accept any other view as "good." 2/19/2007 12:03:33 AM |

i had this class a year ago not too bad you don't necessarily have to read all the readings - but it would definitely help. I barely read at all but I got his in class notes, and made a study guide about topics that I thought he would ask on a test. Then again, I only got a B in the class. The tests can be somewhat hard.
As for the class itself, its at least interesting. Hambourger is a rambling madman, and he does like to inject his own opinion, which is very annoying. He strongly stated his opinion about using birth control and abortion, and ended up arguing about the morality of it with another student in a manner that was not necessarily appropriate. But, it makes for an interesting class. Just be sure to argue back.
Or just go to class and fall asleep. Humanities credit requirement = check. Online class might be easier. 2/19/2007 1:02:48 PM |

It Hambourger the kickboxer? I had a crazy prof for this class when I was on school. He had a huge scar running down his face from his days as an amatuer kickboxer. 2/19/2007 1:35:46 PM |
