Has anyone had both? either?
I have to undergo this surgery in the coming months, I am trying my hardest to schedule it, and figure it out, but I am worried about true recovery times, etc. Doctors can only give estimates. I want to speak with someone who has had it done.
I have had horrible sinitus, to the point where it could be detrimental to my work, and social life. I can barely do anything lately.
So, if you have any info...aside from what i've read on google. I would truly like to hear a real life experience. 2/14/2007 6:46:18 AM |

I had septoplasty and an adenoidectomy as a freshman in high school. I didn't have rhinoplasty. The doc said I'd probably be in bed for 1-2 weeks. By the third day I was feeling fine and back to almost normal life. Two weeks later I was playing soccer. I don't remember having too much pain after the surgery. They gave me some pain meds but I think I only ever took one of them. I remember being really groggy from the anesthesia and throwing up several times from swallowing blood during the surgery, but the only really painful part was having the splints taken out a few weeks later.
I was disappointed with the benefits of the surgery. I can breathe better, but there wasn't as much improvement as I would have liked. I still have a constantly stuffy nose and can only breathe through one nostril at a time. They told me I need a turbinate reduction to be able to breathe through my nose as well as a normal person, but I haven't bothered to have the second surgery. I had more than my fair share of sinus infections before the septoplasty, but I think they actually increased in number (5-10 a year) and severity after I had the surgery. Now, ten years later, I only have one or two every year.
I hope this helped at least a little. PM me if you have any questions or want to talk about it more. 2/14/2007 9:56:05 AM |

Medical Misspelling: Sinitus Sinitus: Possibly a misspelling of medical term sinusitis.
Thought I'd let ya know . Good luck! After reading some of the stuff on sinusitis I feel like that right about now 2/14/2007 11:10:32 AM |

everyons reacts to surgery differently, talking to people about their personal experiences is as good as the doctors estimates
look at the wisdom teeth threads, some people were down for 2 weeks and others were going to work the next day!
we all heal at different rates, if you really want a good estimate talk to people in your immediate family who have had surgery and ask how long it took for them to recover since genetics plays a part 2/14/2007 7:59:48 PM |
