I'll be in NYC from Wed night through Sat night. Do any of the New Yorkers on here have recommendations for restaurants/bars and generally for places to visit? Also, if you are a member of the local wolfpack club, will they be meeting on Wed night to watch the game?

It'd be hot to rent out the Sky Box at ESPN Zone for the game

Visiting all of the hot things in NYC is a lot to do. Basically, I just googled "things to do NYC" and picked out the ones that interested me. Personally, I couldn't go w/o hitting up the Hard Rock Cafe and Serendipity ('twas the first movie the now-wife and I saw as a couple), but the best eats in NYC are obviously the local ones where the locals would best know.

Have fun! And oh yeah, do the Maddame Tussauds (sp?) wax museum. It's pricey, but it's dope.

I know some of us will be at Brother Jimmy's on the east side. It's around 71st and 2nd Ave. I believe that's the "official" place to watch the game.

Where are you staying? Places to visit is going to depend on your taste. Central Park, Chinatown and Times Square are obvious. If you like archetecture check out the Flatiron Building and Grand Central and the brownstones in Harlem and Brooklyn Heights. If you are a hipster come check out the dive bars in Williamsburg. If you like art go to the Brooklyn Museum, PS1 and MoMA (personally I'd skip the Met).

^I actually prefer the Met to the MoMa.

Yeah I'm definitely going to Brother Jimmy's, at 77nd and 2nd Ave. There will be a big crowd out there and they should have the sound on. Plus the bartender on Wednesdays is awesome.

Going to ESPN Zone for any game is a nice thought, but everything there is a rip off pricewise (its TS, what you expect?). I'd suggest checking out some bars down in Greenwich Village, around 6th ave and MacDougal St by 4th Street. Off the Wagon, Down the Hatch, and tons of other great bars there.

You can get an awesome view of the city from the top of Rockefeller Center. Its not as high up as the Empire State Building, but it is a 360 degree view, and you can reserve a time so you don't have to wait in line. Central Park is really nice right now, most of the grass is still snow covered, of course after today's 40 degree weather that probably changed already. Go down to Little Italy (Mulberry/Mott St's mainly) for some great food, ditto Chinatown. Stay away from eating in Times Square. Its cookie cutter shit, and way overpriced.

^Cool, I'll check out Brother Jimmy's. I am staying at the Embassy Suites downtown on the Hudson, so it'll be a hell of a subway ride to get up to 77th St.

I used to live in New Haven and have done the NYC trip more times than I can count, so I've seen the big stuff. I will probably visit 30 Rock (because it wasn't open last time I visited) and the MOMA (to see the expansion). Otherwise, I'm just looking for a good bar or restaurant to check out on Thu and Fri nights.

I second Down the Hatch on W4th. That place rocks hard. Also in Manhattan: Lit on 2nd Ave, d.b.a. on 1st, Crocodile Lounge on 14th, Doc Holidays on Ave A, Luke and Leroy, 12", 141 (at 141 Rivington St.), The Blue Owl. Brooklyn: Trash Bar, Clem's, Pete's Candy Store, Union Pool, Barcade, all in Williamsburg. These are all loud bars where you will probably leave very drunk if you go on a good night with good people.

edit: I just saw where you were staying: There's a great restaurant in Tribeca called the Cub Room but it's $texas. There's also a dive bar on Chambers called the Patriot Saloon but it's been hit or miss recently... I have not been late at night.

Also I think I fucked up the name of that bar on Rivington. It might be 174.

^The Patriot is awesome...not necessarily the crowd, but if you want a dive bar and don't mind, or just plain like hearing Johnny Cash all night that's where you need to be

That said, Down the Hatch is my favorite bar in the city

super ben, how is d.b.a.? I've been meaning to go there for a long time, but I recently found out they're dog friendly so I'd want to bring my dog along. I heard they had an awesome beer selection.

Andrea, are you staying at my place?

I love Down the Hatch, but its always super crowded so unless you get there early its a bitch. Off the Wagon is nuts most of the time, and I never have a problem meeting chicks there.

^ Yeah, they do have a decent beer selection, especially if you like Beligians, and they have some good domestics (Goose Island ftw). They also have a big whiskey selection, which I think is the main draw for me. It's reletively low key, but they have a great patio for some afternoon drinking once it starts getting warmer. They do allow dogs.

I didn't like Chinatown compared to the one in San Francisco, and the Guggenheim was stuffy and pretentious. For art museums I heart MoMA, and the Frick is really cool, but you have to take one of the little machines that tell you what everything is because none of the paintings have descriptions. The Met is cool, but it's HUGE. You could be in there all day.

Central Park is terrific. I recommend buying a pretzel, picking a bench, and watching the people.

If you like chocolate, or you're with someone who likes it, go to Vosges in SoHo and get the pepper chocolate ice cream. We're going to NY in September, and I'm practically planning our trip around it.

If you find yourself in Brooklyn and in need of breakfast, go to Blue Sky Bakery. I could live off their muffins.

I heart Greenwich Village. I don't remember the names of any of the places I ate at (except one of those Papaya Dog places, which was awesome), but there's a bar...I want to say it's called Boxers, and I enjoyed the atmosphere there. I also had my first Mojito at a Cuban restaurant there. Seriously, just go and walk around and pick someplace to eat. Both times I've been to NY I had all these places in mind I was going to go to, and both times I abandoned my list and just rolled with it. I'm pretty sure my third time there will be the same.

Is Brother Jimmy's the only fucking bar in NYC with ESPN Gameplan? I don't want to go all the way up there... Any ideas around 14th?
