They suck with him. Why not get the cap space and move him to the Lakers. Come on Jova 2/23/2007 2:49:54 PM |

because they wanted andrew bynum and the lakers would have been absolutely retarded to give him up 2/23/2007 2:50:51 PM |

yeah pretty unrealistic. Kwame Brown or Radmonovic could have been sent in his place. 2/23/2007 2:55:06 PM |

^ im not sure what you mean by had to move Carter as well...
Anyway the Nets wanted to move Kidd for good young talent so they could hand the PG job to Marcus Williams and then maybe resign Carter in the offseason.
The problem is that Jason Kidd is old and has 2 years left on his megadeal after this one. He still runs the offense well but he sucks defensively because he's not quick enough to guard opposing PG's. The Lakers already have two primary ball handlers in Kobe/Odom so Kidd isn't as big of a need for them as a PG who can score a little.
Giving up Bynum would be absolutely ridiculous for Kidd because its not like the Lakers would be serious contenders with Kidd.
On the other hand, NJ has a great chance to make the playoffs now that Wade is out (and Richard Jefferson coming back) so its completely dumb for them to give away one of the top PG's in the game for trash. The Nets real mistake was not trading Kidd for Tony Parker three years ago when the Spurs offered.
Now the Nets are in a tight spot because Carter is going to demand top dollar with the Magic and Bobcats making a move for him. If they re-sign Carter they're pretty much in the same boat and they'll have to try to deal Kidd during the offseason. More than likely they'll end up holding onto Kidd and dealing him sometime around the deadline next year.
The problem was that the two teams who really need a PG (Lakers & Cavs) don't have anything worth a shit to offer for Kidd. (besides Bynum who the lakers wouldnt trade) 2/23/2007 4:10:43 PM |

playoffs = revenue
they probably won't do any damage but they are guaranteed 2 home games and can probably squeeze out a third game too...
No sense in giving Kidd away for nothing, maybe there will be a better market for him next year when he has left $$$ left on his deal...
I dont understand why the Magic didnt trade Grant Hill's expiring deal for someone though 2/23/2007 7:53:18 PM |

they didnt have to give up on him. They could have landed some talent to help them out this year then re-signed Hill next year to the veteran minimum.
I guess they didnt want to tie up any cap space because they plan on making a run at VC this offseason. Still have to wonder what they're going to do with Darko. His cap hold number is going to be like $12.5 million unless they renounce his rights.
If Nene got $10 mil per I'm sure Darko can probably get the same. 2/26/2007 5:19:30 PM |
