I would recommend just watching them in order that they were filmed. The prequels have things that ruin some of the surprises in the original three. 2/23/2007 3:19:35 PM |

Just don't watch the Episode I - III. If you have to force yourself to endure campy acting that makes you want to strangle Natalie portman and pray for Anakin's death, then watch the clone wars Cartoons and episode III.
Other then that, don't even bother. They are terrible. 2/23/2007 3:27:20 PM |

seconded. The prequels had nothing of what the originals had. Watch 4 through 6, then use your imagination to create Episodes 1-3 for yourself, because it will be better than what was created. 2/23/2007 4:15:13 PM |

I recommend starting with 4-6 first, and 1-3 are optional. But definitely do watch the Clone Wars cartoons 'cause they were the shit. A vast improvement over AotC in all respects. 2/23/2007 4:43:02 PM |

Save yourself a lot of pain and only watch the original three.
If you insist on all of them, 4-6 then 1-3

watch 4-6 first, then 1-3, then the clone wars cartoons. episode 1 is pretty boring, but 2 & 3 at least have enough space/lightsaber battles to make them interesting to watch. the clone wars series is pretty awesome though and should be saved for last to help you forget about the shitty parts of the sequels 2/23/2007 5:25:24 PM |

Watch IV twenty times, then - watch V twenty times, then - watch VI twenty times, then - watch the three in sequence.
That's the way it really happened.
Well, make that about 50 times for the first one ... my girlfriend at the time worked at the theatre, so over the summer I'd watch the last feature before driving her home.

Watch ep4,5,6 then go back and watch 1-6 in order with clone wars cartoon between II and III. That way you don't ruin any reveals, but you get to go back and appreciate how much was set up in the original trilogy. I-III actually aren't that bad, at least they're not start Star Trek.2/24/2007 11:21:27 AM |

i disagree with all the hate on 1-3. well, on 2 and 3 at least. i didn't like the phantom menace either...worth a watch once, but not more than that.
however, i thought that 2 and 3 were both very entertaining. neither were near the level of the original trilogy...but i enjoyed both of them multiple times. 2/24/2007 4:01:04 PM |

i agree
i do not think "they sucked" as many say...no they weren't as good as the original trilogy...frankly cause they're practically animated films instead of people interacting with each other
but i think 2 and 3 were pretty dang entertaining...they should have gotten the kid from sixth sense for episode one, tough 2/24/2007 4:07:01 PM |

I'll add to the prevailing sentiment that 1-3 blow ass. If you took Jar Jar out of Phantom, then it could have been ok. Attack of the clones was a poorly written love story with WAAAY over the top action sequences. 3 was pretty decent, but it still has nothing on the originals. 2/24/2007 5:59:38 PM |

2 was by far the worst. i dont think 1 was that bad and 3 was actually pretty entertaining.
so just screw yourself by watching them in order of quality.
2 1 3 4 6 5
4&6 arguably switchable. 2/24/2007 6:14:14 PM |

Question. Does anyone know if George Lucas has ruled out making some movies about the later stories from the Star Wars universe? Like Han and Leia's kids, etc. Dammit I want to know if Luke taught Leia how to become a Jedi. If done right a new trilogy would be pretty awesome.

you know, technically, you might want to watch the Star Wars Holiday Special between eps. IV and V. While the majority of the special is utter garbage (which is further proof that Lucas has ALWAYS made the SW Universe campy) there is a cartoon in the middle of it that introduces Boba Fett. So if Clone Wars makes the cut, you have to add this. 2/26/2007 7:30:26 AM |

Answer: Lucas has adamantly stated that he will not continue the story beyond the end of Return of the Jedi. However, he seems pretty willing to continue telling story story about what happens during and after the Clone Wars. The new Clone Wars animated series is due next year, and the live-action Star Wars TV series is due in 2009. I've only just recently seen some mockups from the new Clone Wars series, and the art looks pretty good. It's not at all like the previous Cartoon Network series (which is a little disappointing), but is instead CGI. There is very little news about the TV series other than to say that it is still in development. It's supposed to take place after the end of Revenge of the Sith, and will go into detail about how Vader purged the galaxy of the Jedi. There's also a new game coming soon called Force Unleashed which deals with this same subject.
So yeah, unless somehow Timothy Zahn is magically given permission to take the helm at Lucasfilm, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this. But who knows...?2/26/2007 8:05:52 AM |

My suggestion would be to watch 4, 5, and 6, then just watch all the action sequences from 1-3.
Oh, and be sure to fast forward through any part where Anakin Skywalker is talking (especially in ep 1). If that should happen to make you skip an action sequence, trust me, it's worth it. 2/26/2007 9:50:38 AM |

You remember how he also adamantly stated that the original trilogy in it's original form no longer existed and would never be available on DVD? He even said the original master copies were overwritten so as to drive the point home - just long enough to sell the inferior DVDs so he could in turn re-sell the same people the same movies some months later when he finally made the product everyone wanted in the first place available. His main motivation is money. If he wants more there will be more SW movies, and any SW movies created strictly for the $starwars is bound to be terrible.

He probably shamed the remaining jedi to death. Only a spectacular one tree hillesque miniseries away from finding out all the details. The dates keep pushing back every time I hear about it though.
