so it looks like i jumped the gun a little bit and did my taxes before i got a 1099 from the state for the taxes i got refunded last year. apparently im supposed to include those in my income for the year, which i didnt do.

also, you can't do a tax amendment online (which is how i originally did it)....so now i have to go back and fix everything by hand, and pay back some money....not too much, but id rather do it then risk getting audited.

has anyone done this before? ....it doesnt look too bad, but im just curious if anyone has done it before or had any things i should look out for.

I did once before... I think the form was 1040X or something.

Just be damn sure you put on your payment to them what it's for and to who's ssn it gets applied.

I owed 80 something one year & gave my grandmother cash while she wrote the check for it. 'bout 3 months later the IRS says they got my ammended tax form but not the payment (which was in the same envelope- go figure). The check had been deposited with the irs, however.

Just CYA and have a clear copy of all your forms/payments you send in when you do this

well, theres a difference between an accident and not claiming income when the 1099 is also sent to the IRS....I'd rather not get audited.

I screwed up one year and they sent me a letter 3 years later demanding payment + penalty + interest. That really sucked, so it's good that you caught it now.
