Anyone know of any methods for changing sleeping positions?
I have slept on my stomach for quite some time, and its now starting to give me substantial back pain in my lower back. We have a new king size matress, and the firmness isnt really an issue.
I've been googling like a mother fugger, but cant really find anything substantial.
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks. 3/5/2007 10:45:24 AM |

weak,
mind of matter.
focus as you fall asleep, lucid dream if it helps. Border yourself with pillows or a girl so its more difficult to roll over. correct yourself immediatly in the middle of the night if you turn. 3/5/2007 10:57:53 AM |

Just put a pillow under your stomach, or don't put your head on such a big pillow. I sleep on my stomach alot, and if my head/neck is too high, it puts my lower back in an awkward position and it'll hurt, but if my lower back, neck are aligned somewhat, no pain. 3/5/2007 11:15:26 AM |

You probably won't sleep as well if you change positions, at least for quite a while. I used to sleep on my stomach in the "runner" position, but now I sleep on my side. I've found it hard to change, but it sounds like you have to.

attach a tennis ball to your chest. when you try to roll over onto your stomach, the ball will encourage you to move to the side or your back.
you can sew one into your pajama top (if you wear a pajama top [gay]) 3/5/2007 3:14:12 PM |

Lay on back, line both sides of the bed with double sided tape, if you roll over on your stomach either way during the night you will either run out of body hair or break your habit. 3/5/2007 4:04:37 PM |

I had to do this when I broke my nose and the doctor had to pack it.
What I did is I put a large object (like a suitcase) beside me so I wouldn't roll over during the night. I guess you could try this and see if it works after a while. 3/5/2007 9:33:14 PM |

The tennis ball is a great idea. You'll have to find something that is comfortable laying on your back/side but not stomach. Seriously though, I don't know if you're overweight or not but that's a sure sign you need to change your diet.
Also if you use more than 2 pillows that can lead to neck problems.
I wake up congested if I sleep on my stomach. I used to stuff two pillows on my sides to stop it. Worked for the most part. 3/6/2007 10:48:17 AM |

well if you hvae my problem, you'll break that habit fast. If i sleep on my stomach i wake up randomly in the middle of the night because my arms are completely numb and i can't move at all...its actually quite painful sometimes... 3/6/2007 5:36:26 PM |

You can try the fetal position with a pillow between your legs. That will make it more difficult to adjust onto your stomach. 3/6/2007 8:03:59 PM |

someone probably already said this but sleep with a body pillow under your body so you're still kinda on your stomach, but at about 45 degrees. Works for me 3/8/2007 10:39:28 AM |

update:
I've been sleeping with a pillow on my left hand side (becasue thats the side I always turn over on) since making this thread and looking at the feedback.
I have really made a conscious (and I suppose sub-conscious as well) effort to not turn over and sleep on my stomach.
It seems to be working. Not only that, but no back pain at all in the mornings and I actually have woken up more energized and refreshed than I can recall. From everything I have read, sleeping on your back allows for much better air and blood flow, so the rejuvenated feeling is typical and apparently expected when you make this change.
I'm getting much better sleep, but continue to have to correct myself when I find myself just turning over to sleep on my stomach.
It's a process, but its well worth surrounding myself with pillows on one side, and my hot wife on the other. thanks for the feedback.
