so I'm looking to move into an apartment at Gorman Street Village in May
wondering if anyone here had any opinions/advice on the place.
it looks fairly new and clean, the price seems reasonable. I've heard a lot of negative things about Gorman Crossing, but nothing about Village, I'm hoping they aren't the same place. 3/7/2007 4:57:48 PM |

i lived there for a year from 2004-2005. pretty spacious apartments. i didnt have any problems with management, although many people do complain about the preiss company. the walls are super thin so you can hear everything next door. they cut back costs on the carpet because there was no padding or anything it was pretty much like concrete. i lived on the second floor so i could hear everything above really well, even if someone was just walking down the hall it sounded like loud thuds. the place is full of students so some nights it can get pretty loud. also, its surrounded by ghetto apartments so make sure to lock your car. parking on site is terrible but they give you a parking pass for said ghetto apartments.
if you want any more specifics PM me 3/7/2007 6:56:29 PM |

I live there now. Some of my friends love it some don't (I don't). Yeah, it's pretty spacious which is nice. But yeah, the walls and ceilings are so paper thin, don't even think about going to sleep before 4am on the weekends.
I've also had 3 separate problems with the pipes above my ceiling leaking, causing some minor/major wet spots in the ceiling. One of them happened in my bathroom over Christmas...I got back and the bathroom was pretty much flooded. Fortunately, the maintenance is somewhat timely--just make sure you're there when they come so you can tell/show them exactly what needs to be done, or it won't get done [correctly].
Also, being on the first floor, I was blessed to get the "handicapped room". My bathroom is fully handicap accessible, complete with about 10 metal bars to hold on to in case I slip, a hotel-grade toilet with no toilet cover, and door handles to match. The kitchen is handicap-proof as well, with all the high cabinets lowered about a foot. It makes cooking on the stove a major bitch. I realize this is probably unique to my apartment, but it sucks all the same. The people across from me have it much better.
Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did! I'm moving out as soon as my lease is up. Oh yeah, and like someone else said, parking is a bitch. 3/7/2007 7:46:15 PM |

Well I think I'm getting a room on the first floor, so that should help the noise at least a little.

complain about what? or just in general? as far as price and friendliness goes, i like it so far.

are there a lot of noise violations? i don't plan on making a lot of noise every weekend, but sometimes i do enjoy a good party...3/8/2007 10:56:00 AM |

I thought I'd just pay $30 a month extra and the management would take care of the bill.3/8/2007 11:10:21 AM |

I lived there a few years ago.
Yes the noise can get pretty bad depending on your neighbors. The people that lived above me sounded like wrestlers.
Parking sucks hard, and there was some vandalism when I lived there.
They do hand out noise violations. Once they handed out noise violations to the entire 3rd floor (i was on the 1st) because it was so bad.
They also try to gank your security deposit from you by looking for the most minor of problems when you leave. 3/8/2007 11:13:58 AM |

I lived there for one year when they opened the first building, which I believe was 2002?. I lived on the bottom floor. I thought it was pretty nice. Walls are thin, but I don't remember it being too loud. We had to get our sink fixed once, but I think that's it. Never had any problems with the company. 3/8/2007 5:32:47 PM |

good to hear.
at the very least, it's gotta be better than living in a dorm. 3/8/2007 5:55:26 PM |

i lived there 2003-2004. i was on the third floor and have no complaints about noise or anything...except when the band across the hall was going at it, but that was only during reasonable hours.
i don't know what the comment about outrageous power bills is about? our rent was 400 a piece, everything included. one time we got a warning about our power bill exceeding what they expected or something, so we backed off the AC a degree and never heard anymore about it.
parking isn't good for the 1701 building and the towing was rather predatory. but you can just park in parkwood village and walk a bit...not that big of a deal.
post anymore specific questions or hit me up with a PM...
