Quote :
"WASHINGTON - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards.""

I think you are right. I also think we, as a country, need to look past who is doing who and what they can actually do to help our country.

Ummm... this first came out back in 1997, it was one of the main Democrat talking points during the campaign season...

This will have -0- effect on his candidacy, especially when you've got a 3-time divorcee like Giuliani currently polling in front...

This quote doesn't sit right with me. As if his standards should be any different than that of Gods, if he indeed follows the ethos of the christian right.

^ Not really, it's politics as usual.

Just like this whole Valerie Plame thing, it's screwed up that they leaked her name to smear her, but if it wasn't rumored that the vice president was involved, democrats/the left wouldn't care nearly as much, but you'll only hear the democrats saying it's only about protecting our agents.

theres is so much dirt on this guy... he has so much baggage with him.

theres NO WAY he would ever be chosen as anyone's running mate. the GOP has enough liabilities as it is.

he can suck up all he wants to the religious right, no one is going to forget about how he served his wife of 19 years divorce papers in her hospital bed as she was recovering from a battle with cancer. He forced her to negotiate the divorce from the hospital and refused to pay alimony or child support.

and now this extramarital affair stuff? do you realize that he was having the extramarital affair during his marriage to his second wife, with a CONGRESSIONAL AIDE who was 23 YEARS YOUNGER?? all this while leading the persecution against Clinton?

Unlike the politicians who pander themselves to the religious right, the average person who considers themselves a "religious right" voter is generally NOT a selfserving morally bankrupt hypocrite.

Weren't Republicans saying the same thing about John Kerry last year? And both Clinton, Obama and Edwards this year?...

It's politics. Baggage is rarely a substantive hindrance in primaries.

Kerry didnt fundamentally repeatedly do something to alienate his core base.

What Gingrich has done is deeply offensive to the core values of most conservative christians.

all the kiss-ass games in the world wont change that.

What makes this interesting is that it was Gingrich who brought it up. As Rush pointed out today this is old news. Rush's take is that this means Gingrich is running.

Of course I'm not happy with any of his actions, but policy-wise I believe Gingrich has always been spot-on. I'd trust him to make the right policy decisions over any of the current candidates. Not to mention it does say something that he is not trying to hide it and has expressed openly his regret. And besides Romney I think the other candidates have all had marriages tank. Ronald Reagan did pretty well buy us and he was divorced.

Frankly the fact that Romney flip-flopped on abortion recently is much more damning.

well, i admit the best thing a candidate can do with their dirty laundry is to completely and unconditionally air it. sooner the better.

in that regard, Gingrich is playing it smart.

but no one has ever accused him of being dumb. I'll say hes a smart motherfucker.

hes just hated about as much as Hillary is.

and i hope Hillary doesnt win nomination

its such a shame that the republicans fought to keep him in office. And its not like the democrat leadership knew about it way ahead of time and saved it for just before the election, oh noes the children, but it can wait a few months till maximum political gain.

the republicans didn't have to worry about keeping that seat, until they ran a gay paederast for re-election. It's a strongly republican area. They lost that seat because they were under handed about it and kept it secret. Don't blame the democrats for the failings of the Republican leadership.

I don't place the blame on one camp or the other, its just not as cut and dried as republicans bad democrats good. I don't bother to say the republicans bad part here because its already said over and over and over again.

I wish the republicans would battle the charges made against them in a more aggressive manner, lately it seems to me they either just ignore the media or concede to gain favor. They need to be much more combative with a media that is clearly at war with them. Also, they seem to have forgotten that their power comes from following conservative ideals, if they will not speak for those ideals an actually at least talk about cutting back the size of government why should they expect us to support them. I'm a conservative first and a republican only so long as they support those ideals.

I swear republicans hacks (^ for example) make up the dumbest shit possible.

who is the next high profile adulterer to run for president on the republican side? Bob Livingston?

Plus, Bill just likes his ladies a little on the trashy side. He's not a pimp; he's a horndog.

in his defense

he siad "American"

not "worldwide"

and the latino community, the most prominent non-english speaking demographic, has a HUGE poverty problem. whether or not that's linked to their inability to speak english is unknown though...

when people only know their native language they tend to live in close proximity to other people that know the language. these minority ethnic groups largely keep to their community and this causes social and economic hardships. im not ever gonna agree with making english the official language, but the living in a ghetto part isnt that off base. i think you might misunderstand the definition of ghetto.
