I have two computers, both using Outlook Express to check my Gmail via POP forwarding.
The problem is when a message is read on one computer, that message does not download on the second (even though it stays in the Gmail inbox online). I have both Outlook Express accounts setup to leave a copy of the message on the server so I don't see what the problem is.
I implemented the solution here (using recent: before the signin name): http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=47948&topic=1556
but now every message I send is copied into the inbox. i'm sure i could setup a rule to deal with the sent messages but I would rather fix the problem than deal with its effects. Anyone fixed this yet? Evidently Google knows search but they don't know POP 3/9/2007 6:15:43 PM |

does it remain in the gmail inbox as "read" or "unread"? 3/9/2007 9:05:26 PM |

i have the same problem - i didn't know about the recent mode
i was forwarding to another gmail account and pop'ing separate accounts on separate PCs
but i think the filter for sent mail would be easier than that 3/9/2007 9:24:22 PM |

While we are on this discussion ... is there a way to easily centrally coordinate/synchronize items in an Outlook "sent" folder on two separate machines? I've got a work computer and home computer, and use the work one to check for graduate school email during lunch and such. Would like any messages I send through it to also appear on the desktop at home. 3/10/2007 5:27:28 AM |

outlook sync still sucks without an exchange server or IMAP. and IMAP still sucks because it's so slow and locks mail programs up and has no offline backup by itself. 3/10/2007 8:14:10 AM |

^^^ I use rules to copy each message i send to the appropriate folder so theyre saved on the server. so maybe setting up a rule on the work computer to copy sent messages?
^ lemme guess, you're one of those people who posts linux/apple/thunderbird links everywhere they they solve every problem. form what i read, this is is a problem with googles implementation of pop, not a particular client. 3/10/2007 3:25:55 PM |
