lockwood folly isnt bad, but its a tough course for high handicappers because it has tight fairways.

If you want to play nice courses in that area check out River's Edge or Carolina National. Geat courses.

played like absolute garbage yesterday. my short game was all over the place.

I have a real hard time taking every shot seriously when i'm playing with some of my friends b/c they just grip and rip and don't try as hard in latter holes when they're struggling. not to mention they aren't very good to begin with.

So i end up falling victim to that and become lousy around the greens.

Hit my woods and irons real well though, no golf this weekend but hopefully I can get out and play a serious round next week.

Thistle is ok, I am not that big of a fan. The first time I played it it was in great shape the 2nd time, not so much.

I know it is supposed to go semi private, 75k initiation fee. That is out of control.

Playing for the first time since nov this weekend should be interesting

Headed to Lockwood Folly right now ... I didnt see twilight rates for the other two places... but I figure 35 for after 3 is pretty good for beach golf, especially when the regular price is 69 bucks for 18.

You would be suprised. The summer months is usually the cheapest for beach golf. The fall and spring is when the rates go up due to the snow bird effect.

My advice is to work almost solely on your short game. The full swing is a difficult concept that takes constant tweaking and tinkering whereas short game can be improved upon with diligent practice regardless of whether or not you have a solid, effective full swing. Also, 70% of shots come within 100 yards of the pin so around the green is the best way to score. Whenever I played alot in high school and my full swing was struggling, I took a few days off and just worked on chipping, pitching, and putting. This drastically improved my game around the green and gave me some time to not worry about hitting the long ball. Just my 2 cents.

my problem is that i've played less than a year, probably a total of 4 times at a par 3, and been to a driving range no more than 20 times

i just unfortunately have the personality where I expect to be really good and everything I attempt to pick up

i tell ya, he's right about the short game.

I had a big lapse with my driver this summer and my shortgame was my saving point. I have been going to the range atleast twice a week and focusing over half my bucket on working that out and I will tell you my short game has suffered exponentially. I'm over shooting greens even with my 56 and 60 and my touch with bump and runs is nothing like it was.

drive for show, putt/chip for dough.

played for the first time since Nov. this weekend. Played at Cypress Landing at Chocowinity for my buddy's birthday.

46-37

A model of consistancy. But did play the last 7 holes in 2 under. I might have the golf bug again

Just to let you guys know, great coupon in the sports section in todays N+O. There are 20 courses in the sandhills offering rates for $49. Not too bad, I know that you can save like $25 bucks at tobacco road with that coupon. Pretty good deal.

Lockwood Folly was in pretty good condition when I played last thursday. It wasnt busy at all, which was nice, so I played a couple balls on most holes.

Scored a 51 on the front, 47 on the back... Shoulda done much better on the front, but for some reason I forgot that when I swing as hard as I can, I play like crap... Once I finally starting hitting drives and woods ok on the back, my putting started sucking...

Going out in this heat this afternoon to play 9 at lakeshore for the league... I think Im going to die, its so hot out there.

Anyone go to Greensboro today?

I know Forest Oaks doesn't draw the top 50 but Carl Petterson is playing well. He is at 6 under, 2 shots back. I have played this course about 5 times and even I can play this one well. It is not up to their standards and it is easy. It is going to take possibly 30 under par to win this thing.

i'm retired from golfing in 90+ heat after yesterday. Fucking greens were dead and I was too after the round. I hit the ball ok but its tough to sweat your balls off and miss everything you stand over because of some bumps.

After shooting a 42 on the back nine at lakeshore, I shot a 47 on the front 9 this week.

Slowly improving... the front is a bit harder than the back, although my score may have been very different had I not topped off my drive on hole 1...

NCSU grad Carl Petterson is 11 under, 1 shot back at the Wyndham Championship In Gboro.

This tournament field is pathetic, but they are still pros.

Sorry kid, you are never "improving" when you shoot 5 more on either side, no matter what course you play or how hard it is. There is only one word for this when you shoot a 45, anywhere. YOU SUCK! Now you just gotta deal with it. Good luck....

When you only play 9 holes each outing, then you can compare the front 9 this week to the front 9 two weeks ago to judge improvement...

Just cause your an ass who had the silver spoon when you were 10, dont think you are the judge of other peoples improvement.

If I cared, I would not have posted the scores to this thread ... So I suck ... sure, I just keep sucking less and less each week... thats all I care about right now.

I bet royalflush is about a 10 handicap that averages playing once a month. He probably hasn't broken 80 yet this summer.

I also bet that he's a huge douche.

IMO the only thing anyone has a right to criticize in someone elses golf game is how slow they play or how annoying they are on the golf course. If you trash their scores, you are a big gay fag.

I think the players in this thread should all get together one Saturday or Sunday. Eagle Ridge has really good student rates after 1 on Sat. and Sun. Only 30 or 35. That way, Royal can come out and get his ass smoked because not only do I feel I'd embarrass him, I know some of you others would dominate as well. We'll just try and group the similar players together, put the faster (not necessarily better) players up front and the ones who take their time towards the back, that way nobody gets pissed. And there's no need for anyone to be arrogant asses out there, if you're good - congratulations, don't be a dick...but if you're not as good as others, don't be nervous, nobody except fuckwads like Royal will judge you, and by the time you tee off we'll be way ahead, so no pressure-packed shots. Sound good?

god damnit will it ever cool off??? I am fiending to get out there.

my birthday is next week, thinkin about asking for a new bag or maybe a new 60 degree.

I should probably ask for another set of lessons instead

by the way, on irons, are graphite shafts more beneficial to faster or slower swing speeds?

graphite shafts in irons are god for people with slower swing speeds. It gives you more flex and amkes up for slower swing speeds.

steel are usually more consistant especially when you are hitting through thick rough in the summer. But it still is a personal choice.

I'd be down for a TWW Golf day maybe. I'm in fayettenam so it'd have to be weekend for me. I usually shoot mid to high 90s. Like someone else said, make it cheap and I'm in.

^^I'm also waiting for it to freaking cool down for once. I want to walk because it's cheaper and I like the excersize, but most courses around here won't let you walk until after 12pm and by then it's 100+ degrees. Fall can't come fast enough for me.

I dumped my Nike NDS irons with regular grapite shafts and picked up a set of Nike Forged Blades with stiff steel shafts.

I hope they give me a little more consistancy in my iron game. I'm so happy to have non oversized clubs in the bag again. I hated playing with oversized irons.

the reason i asked is b/c my cobra irons have some age on them and i may sell them to my uncle who is starting to get into the game. My dad has a set of taylor made racs with graphite shafts that are about 2 years old he said he'd give me. I may take him up on it.

^^ I would say hit them and see how they feel. That is the only way to really tell. Just to clarify what the dude up there said, graphite shafts aren't always for slower swing speeds. It depends on what the flex of the shaft is.

Found some great golf quotes, had to share:

http://www.strangesports.com/content/item/120182.html

My favorites:

5. Hank Aaron: "It took me seventeen years to get 3,000 hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course."

9. Paul Harvey: "Golf is a game in which you yell "fore," shoot six, and write down five."

14. Lee Trevino: "If you're caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron."

The best one though has to be:

Quote :
"22. Chi Chi Rodriguez: "The first time I played the Masters, I was so nervous I drank a bottle of rum before I teed off. I shot the happiest 83 of my life." "

Finally getting to play tomorrow. May only be 9 holes at the moment. Hopefully it will stay in the 90-92 range (weather) like it says. If so we may stretch it to 18.

I'm playing with my dad, who I always play better with. If i hit my driver like I did two weeks ago I will have a good afternoon.

Playing at Rocky River

i knocked the dust off my clubs this last weekend. Was up in Maryland for a wedding and went to play at a course called maple run. Very nice- almost links style course. A couple guys in the foursome couldn't play, so we ended up doing best ball and my team shot an 89. I felt pretty good about it considering I hadn't played the course before and I hadn't played for a month before that.
