I can take MA 242 or 341 for an elective in my new major. I don't have MA 132 (from having taken 131, instead of 141), which is listed as a prereq for 341. 241 is listed as a prereq for 242. 242 doesn't pique my interest like 341.
i'd be taking either of these in SSI.
Have any of you have 341 and gone the 131/132 route? I'm thinking it won't be too critical. There are no instructors named yet. 3/14/2007 3:57:48 PM |

you will want to have taken MA 241 before taking MA 341
Differential Equations is pretty difficult, and you are first introduced to the material in 241, i think it would be a great advantage to have taken 241 first
but i could be completely wrong, but 242 mirrors 141 but in 3 dimensions and with multiple variables, 241 had a lot more to do with Ma 341

In my 341 class, I begin with all of the same diff. eq. material that is covered in 241, but at a substantially quicker pace, since it should be review. As long as you're willing to put in the extra work early on (quickly) to get caught up, you should be okay. However, without the pre-req, you would need permission from the department to be able to take the class. 3/14/2007 5:22:53 PM |

yeah you'd be a fool to take 341 without 241 first
unless you're already familiar with basic differential equations 3/14/2007 4:57:57 PM |

I liked 341 a hell of a lot better than 242 and i thought it was a lot more understandable and easy. 3/14/2007 10:50:36 PM |

^ I agree. I thought that 341 was pretty straightforward. 3/14/2007 11:24:53 PM |

I took 242 before 341- I think I got a better grade in 242. 242 is more of a continuation of what you've done before. It may not be exciting, but it'd probably be easier than doing Diff EQ 3/15/2007 12:23:01 AM |

i thought 242 was a joke, its all old stuff just with another dimension. i struggled with 341 though, but i think a lot of that was because the professor didnt teach in the way that i learned math. 3/15/2007 6:51:10 AM |

Thanks, yall. I was especially interested in anyone who had done 131 and 132 and 231 instead of 141 241.
I think I'm gonna find another class Appreciate it 3/15/2007 10:25:59 AM |
