IBM r50p. Four years old. My zip drive and hard drive adapter work fine in the ultrabay.
I have tried three different disc drives, a CDRW, a DVD multi, and a CDRW/DVDROM. All of them do the same thing: work fine for five minutes and then stop working (disc spin starts and stops over and over, does nothing).
Any ideas? 3/15/2007 7:52:32 PM |

Try updating the firmware after you put one of the optical drives in the bay. I'm not sure if the ultrabay itself has a firmware update but you might want to look into that also.
Go to Lenovo's (IBM) website and put in your model and type (look on bottom, it will be on the same sticker as the serial number, should be something like 1847-CTO, 2888-EU3, etc).

It actually looks like this might be the firmware you need - it will detect whether or not you need the firmware and if so, it will install it for you.

^ I don't see why thats so funny.
Are these regular ultrabays or ultrabay slims? 3/16/2007 10:10:12 PM |

Figured it out. The problem turned out to be the discs themselves - I make custom labels for all my CDRs, and I guess those labels are too damn heavy. Normal discs work fine. Thanks all. 3/18/2007 3:54:02 PM |
