Ok, so I have my mp3 directory shared on my network
That's all good
I can access everything I want, EXCEPT one directory 2 directories deep.
What'd I do wrong
Because I can access every other folder in that directory 3/18/2007 10:58:40 PM |

checked it's ownership settings?
what does it say when it doesn't let you access it? 3/18/2007 11:32:18 PM |

How long are the directory names? Windows (even Vista) gets funky beyond a certain number of characters ... something in the 200 range IIRC. 3/19/2007 5:03:27 AM |

^^ settings are identical to everything else
Says \\blah\blah\blah\Directory is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server, blah blah
Access is denied.
But why that one folder when everything else is just fine?
^ And the directory name is 4 letters long. None of the higher directories are longer than 25

Are you checking both the files and directory permissions? If they are as there supposed to be, I don't know what else it could be. It's not exactly a complex system. 3/19/2007 11:17:02 AM |

One method I found that works atleast in linux is to just make a copy of a directory that is working proper, make sure the copy works, then copy the files from the broken directory to the new one. delete the broken and rename the new
not the cleanest approach, and def. not the 'right' way to do things, but its usually faster unsure if it would work in this case 3/19/2007 10:35:44 PM |

i'd go to the root of the you mp3 collection, unshare it and all subfolders, then share it again. redoing things always works for me. 3/19/2007 10:47:56 PM |

General security thing: Windows File and Print Sharing enabled is asking for trouble. Find/install another solution. Probably less trouble than figuring this out (in truth). 3/19/2007 11:33:20 PM |
